Don't worry, there may be a new tallest in the works for Mtl

That's exactly what I think is in the plans too.

I have no info whatsoever about a new tallest coming up, but things are in place for this to happen very soon.

Maybe Cadillac Fairview will test the market with its 62 stories proposal and then go 'all in'' with a 70+ floors on some lower land where they can reach 230 meters ?

That would be awesome.

Any slight info you could leak us LeftCoaster ?

Not really, but the new tallest is not the CF tower at the Bell Centre.

It is also still in the planning stages and could be completely redesigned, shorter, taller or just canned entirely.

Obviously I will update as I can.

gimme a break there's no way any building will be constructed that's taller than the holy mountain (the thing is a fucking hill) Dinu and his gang of tree huggers would foam at the mouth, the hippies and anarchist would probably attack the construction site ,all life as we know it would come to an end if such a large building were to be constructed..where in Montreal can you build a 230m tower?

61 storey residential tower in Montreal? It has passed the first hurdle http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showpost.php?p=5443279&postcount=1056

Where is Dinu Bimbaru, the penultimate NIMBY of our times?

Sorry tallest by roof height, not taller than the little twig sticking out of the 1250.

197 meters (roughly) is the maximum heigh on René-Lévesque to respect the Mount Royal zoning law, but when you go down the hill, on St-Antoine for example, you can most probably add 30 meters.

There is no Phase 3 for Altitude. I don't know where people get that.

Well le1000 is located down the hill and it's only 205m, name me one area where you can build a 230m tower in Montreal

It's 205m if you calculate the elevation on the entrance side on DeLaGauchetière, which is logic I guess. But if you calculate the heigh from the elevation on St-Antoine, it's more like 215 and this is not the lowest, since the hill goes even lower from there. So maybe not 230, but certainly 220, for exemple on the land south of the Bell Center.

I know what you're getting at, but in the real world the only lots in Montreal that are worth building up to 230m are located between Sherbrooke and Rene Levesque (especially the lot in front of the bell center) and the height nazis won't allow anything over 200m

So basically, no building in Montreal will really be able to breakthrough 200 meters?

Very true. But it's my understanding that Cadillac Fairview own large chunks of land south of the Bell Center, where they have future projects link to a new train and bus station. And this where they could build a condo or mixed-use tower that would become the highest in Montreal. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens there in the coming years.

Most likely months, definitely not weeks and probably less than a year.

And if someone else leaks something earlier its no longer my fault

Sorry for all the secrecy, believe me I'm itching to post these renderings.

I guess my english must be really bad, because I just explained how it is possible to build at least up to 220 meters.

the problem is the areas where developers would want to put up 200m+ towers they're resticted to about 198m (in fact.. maybe it's an urban legend but 1250RL was originally designed as a 70 storey tower) and the areas where they can exceed 200m is not really suited for office buildings( too far from the heart of downtown) so that leaves mixed use construction and unlike Toronto foreign investors aren't lining up to buy condos in Montreal (which in the long run could be a good thing)

Don't worry your english is fine.

However possible it is to build beyond 200 meters, just not very likely.

... Unless the proposal that Leftcoaster is talking about does bear fruit.
