It will probably be decades before anything like what they show in their master plan comes to complete fruition, I'm just impressed that they have a viable plan to guide future growth. I think Sandy would be a much more livable place today if they'd come up with something like this 20 years ago.

Thank you.

Imagine in 10-15 years Salt Lake county may have a few mini downtown's popping up around the valley. Places like West Valley, Murray, Sandy, South Salt Lake and West Jordan will have one on the West side of the Valley along the Mountain View Corridor. There is also the Sugar House area. Out of all those Cities I think West Valley and Murray have the best locations and set up for good downtown's. They both have Trax running very close enough to walk too near by and have easy access to a freeway. I also think there street layout also allows them to grow and continue a sustainable growth.

Almost forgot about South Salt Lake and think there set up could do well with Trax and the street car connecting it with Sugar House.

Sandy on the other hand has fragmented its core, that city will have to make some major changes to its street layout for it to work properly. Not only that but Sandy has not focused on a good mix of tenants. at first they just brought in office buildings and now just recently in the past few years got some high density housing close by. But its not mixed in very well with the office and there is no retail at street level to encourage walking. Then you have the convention space that's out of the way. Sandy to me just seems like hey we want to be another downtown so lets add in some offices. Well that's not working as well so now lets get some housing and throw it over here. Now lets steal the soccer stadium and aquarium and toss one over here and the other over there.

Sandy's town center still requires the car.

I totally agree on mini downtowns, but don't over look Daybreak, they have trax, the begining of a new hosptial, a new freeway/highway in a year and they get to build from the ground up. It could be very impressive!

Sorry, didn't mean to say West Jordan. That was supposed to be South Jordan, meaning the Daybreak location.

Talisker envisions linking Canyons to Solitude
Connection would be one of the most ambitious moves of Park City's skiing era

http://www.parkrecord.com/ci_18989190

By Jay Hamburger
The Park Record

...There have been ideas over the years to create some sort of connection between the Park City-area resorts and the ones in the Cottonwood Canyons, particularly in Big Cottonwood Canyon, but none of them have advanced. Talisker Mountain Incorporated's involvement, however, could bring a higher degree of credibility that others in the past lacked...

Now with Trax connecting the city, and planning for a more dense and eclectic downtown area, along with venues like the Maverick Center, I wonder if in a decade or two there may be sort of a twin-cities scenario shaping up with SLC and WVC.
That's possible. If SLC were a typical city, WVC would just be its suburb, and the downtown area there would be called 'midtown', or 'WestDo', or something silly like that.

LOL, I was going to say I live in West Jordan and there are no plans to have a mini downtown here.

I haven't lived in the Valley for 7 years so I will blame my confusion on that.

Rents climbing for apartments, vacancies falling in Salt Lake metro area

The overall mid-year apartment vacancy rate in Salt Lake County was 5.2 percent, a slight decline from last year when the rate was at 5.7 percent. (Michael Brandy, Deseret News)

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...etro-area.html

By Jason Lee - Deseret News

SALT LAKE CITY — Finding an apartment in the Salt Lake metro area is becoming increasingly more challenging these days, and it probably won't get much easier in the near future...

...Paul said that 5 percent vacancy "is generally considered as tight as a market can be," or virtually full occupancy.

He said trends indicate that the area rental market will likely fall below the 5 percent benchmark sometime next year — making the market even more difficult for prospective renters...

Now is the time to build apartment complexes! It seems to me that new multi-family residential units are more likely condos than apartments (downtown). I'd like to see more rental units, especially low-income ones.

Is this something new, or just a super-old picture of Emigration Court being built?

That's Emigration court before they ruined its courtyard and plastered it with fake brick and stucco.
