Their building something small next to the i80 west entrance on state St. Most likely a fast food restaurant. (Sorry for the poor quality photo)

I also notice their building a mini Cooper dealership in Murray.

No more dealerships on state. Should be a law.

New Building @ Old Mill Corporate Center complex

Looks like there is a new building going up at the Old Mill Corporate Center complex. It looks to be topped out at around 6 or 7 stories. I never drive there in that area so I didn't even know a new building was going up right now. Was this that same building that at one point was going to be 12-stories?
Notice this yesterday while driving on I-215.

Yes. That is exactly where the 12 story building was going to be.

This isn't a new dealership, just a new building for an existing dealership.

*sigh* I know... it just seems that for every shop, restaurant, or office, there's at least two of the above all the way from 4th South to Draper. I don't have a problem with them, just my own perception of the seemingly over-abundance of these establishments.

So Hill Air Force Base did a great job reinventing themselves in the maintenance niche and with their approval to privatize a good section of the base for research and development.

Now Dugway has revealed its transition from chemical weapons disposal to a major testing site for unmanned drone aircraft. I think it's a good fit.

Army demos new battlefield technology in Dugway

Quote:
Dugway Proving Ground • The Army allowed a peek behind the curtain at Dugway Proving Ground on Thursday, showcasing six years of work to get drones, fighting helicopters and ground commanders working together to improve the quality of battlefield information.

The Army and contractors design much of the technology elsewhere, but testing and integration of the manned and unmanned systems happens at Dugway Proving Ground, 80 miles west of Salt Lake City.

Utah’s west desert was chosen over bases in Arizona because of its vast area of restricted air space as well as the fact there is little radio traffic to compete for frequencies the Army needs, Owings said.

The Rapid Integration and Acceptance Center was created at Dugway in 2009, and a number of new hangars and test buildings are already in place around Michael Army Airfield. The center has eight permanent staffers, and another 130 contractors typically work there. Two hundred more have been there for three weeks, preparing for this week’s exercise. “We plan a complete complex that’s going to get much bigger,” Owings said.

West Valley City Sees Success

West Valley City's Olive Garden is restaurant's leading national performer

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...performer.html

Aaron Crim For The Deseret News

WEST VALLEY CITY — Economic development efforts at the center of Utah’s second-biggest city are moving forward full-force. The recent announcement of the City Center project, Fairbourne Station, and the continued development of the Valley Fair Mall may be proving successful as businesses and retailers become involved with one of the largest redevelopment projects in the state...

This is a bird's-eye view of Fairbourne Station. Ground has been cleared for a four-acre park on the left and a Hilton Embassy Suites Hotel on the right. Construction has begun on the park and will begin on the hotel in the coming weeks. (Kevin Conde, West Valley City Public Relations)

...Economic development efforts in the heart of West Valley City are not limited to Valley Fair Mall. Fairbourne Station, a major redevelopment effort encompassing the area between 3500 South and 3650 South and 2700 West and 3200 West, will begin taking shape in the coming weeks as construction begins on a four-acre park and a Hilton Embassy Suites Hotel...

Good news! I was thinking about West Valley the other day as I was looking at the Utah city population totals from the 2010 census. WVC is only about 50,000 people behind Salt Lake now, and while Salt Lake is finally is growing steadily again, in terms of population, WVC will probably close that gap a little more and remain Utah's second largest city by only a small margin. Now with Trax connecting the city, and planning for a more dense and eclectic downtown area, along with venues like the Maverick Center, I wonder if in a decade or two there may be sort of a twin-cities scenario shaping up with SLC and WVC.

Crazy to think WVC has about 50,000 fewer people then SLC, however WVC has no downtown and not a single highrise. WVC is a bit behind when it comes with setting up a city core. But Im glad to see that city making tons of improvements to that area. I would like to see a few highrises in that area oneday. I think WVC is more ready for highrises then Sandy or Murray.

I agree, except about Murray, of the suburbs in SL county trying to densify, they probably have the best infrastructure and plans to do so. They have good access to rail, roads, and a decent master plan to guide growth around their historic core:

I have already been to Valley Fair Mall twice now - in just 2 months! If it weren`t for the TRAX line I wouldn`t have gone. It`s a quick 5 mile spur from the main line and makes it very convenient for those of us without cars. The renovation efforts have made some very good improvements to what used to be a decaying suburban mall. Now it`s a good mix of restaurants, stores, offices, civic government buildings, entertainment, etc. I can only see it getting better from here. A hotel would be a very important piece to the puzzle in the overall development plan. Then there`s the stadium (don`t know the name) nearby.

As for transportation, they`ve got a large bus hub along with TRAX and the MAX. I rode the MAX out of curiosity. It was great! It even has its own curbed lanes on 35th South until Bangetter! The stops are only on the intersecting main roads, making it just as fast and convenient as a train. The 215 goes right through the middle of the development with Bangetter a short jog to the west. By car, it`s a quick 10 minute spur from I-15 and I-80, 5 min from the 201 making it convenient for autos too. With miles of developed urban and suburban areas for miles in all directions, it truly is a central location with plenty of existing and evolving transit infrastructure in place. I would bet that it is just as far from the airport as down town is.
