The problem with dreams is that the bigger they are, the more disappointed you'll be when they don't happen.

Signature for Concord would mean mediocre quality architecture at best. Think aqua in Chicago only with lots of spandrel.

Even that would be too ambitious for Signature. I always just expected a tall, generic cylindrical tower. Although, the rumour floating around now is that it's just going to be around the same height as the other towers.

Nothing special. Looks kind of iffy and has potential to look cheap if poorly executed. Probably about what I would have expected based on elevations. And very typical of a Page+Steele design. The name change will be a lot more attractive to the Asian investors.

Teaser shot of 88 Scott Street (formerly 40 Scott), posted by interchange42 on UrbanToronto:

^Cumberland Terrace is one of the only few Canadian towers to pull off the "protruding box" fad well. This is definitely not one of them.

renamed 88 Scott because 4 is bad in chinese and 8 is good luck?

wow, this really looks a lot like Quantum/Minto Midtown,... I find it really really cool though to see a brick/older looking facade go that high up in the tower... of course the render doesn't make the materials look that great, but maybe the cladding will be nicer.

Yeah. It's a good marketing strategy considering how influential the Chinese are in the current construction boom. Most condo sales offices will have Mandarin speaking agents. Many other project names around the city have been tweaked to include the number 8 in their addresses.

And there's no way that will be brick. It looks like it will be pre-cast. I don't see a big deal either way. Considering the mid-level price range of these condos, I would expect mediocre pre-cast quality. Probably something along the lines of Uptown.

So I Assume they had multiple addresses to pick from due to the lot size. Went with the one that would be best for business.

If this one was 5 meters taller I could win my first city to break 200 meters bet. So I will have to wait for Menkes, harbourfront monstrosity and pray it starts before Herald Square in Calgary, which looks like it has the edge of being the next 200m plus tower breaking ground in Canada. Even if it does get the go ahead, it will likely be followed closely by two towers in Toronto over 200m and three more in the 190 to 195 meter range.

Reminds me of that saying, can't win'em all!

Why are you calling the Menkes proposal, a "harbourfront monstrosity" ? We don't have confirmed details or know what it's going to look like yet...

Well they paid $77 million dollars for the site, and it's across the Street from ICE 235 meters and 202 meters, right in front of MLS.

The lot is right underneath the Gardiner, so I hope you guys arn't expecting townhomes.

Yeah, I was expecting buildings of sufficient heights too. I just thought your remark on "harbourfront monstrosities" was made in reference to the designs of the future buildings. I normally hear that word (monstrosity) in a negative manner.

I don't expect townhouses but, you're far too quick to assume residential. 75 million is a huge chunk of change and the profit from two Ice Towers would be completely gobbled by the purchase price. Expect a lot of office space; possibly just office space. Two 30 storey towers, 160 metres tall, with around a million square feet will pad their pockets for a lifetime. Towers with 400,000 to 700,000 shouldn't take long find tenants either.(in comparison to a tower of Bay Adelaide's specs)

Well the application said mixed use so don't get your hopes up for two 30 storey office towers.

Word at UT is that West Lake Village officially broke ground on September 16.

lots of interesting rumours and news over at UT tonight...one poster, azzo, is confirming that there is truth to the rumour of twin 80 storey towers at Yonge and Bloor. He is saying that plans for these are on the current site of Holt Renfrew on Bloor (?)...this is unofficial of course..

Another UT poster named digitec is providing pretty detailed information that there is a massive land deal happening for 90 Harbour St., which will now apparently include 60 Harbour St.

Never a dull moment!

Intriguing, naturally, but I'm waiting for official announcements for all of these latest entries (including the 100s at SW Bloor/Yonge) before getting the blood pumping. So far it's all just blather, even if insiders' blather.

Trying to figure out how the Holt Renfrew will operate when these rumoured towers begin construction.

• Move to a temporary location
• Build towers in phases
• relocate tenants at other spots in the centre away from new towers
