Do you mean A320?

They might have split the flight - I was on a red eye that was split to Toronto from YEG last month, the earlier flight remained a A321 I believe, and the later was an E90.

I think it's just a fleet adjustment. AC is trying to replace the 320 with E90 where possible. The flight is preforming well when I fly it. But I don't know the margins they are making.

In terms of comfort and unless you have a party of 3, the E190 beats AC's 319/320/321's and WS's 737's any day.

Add me to the list of liking the 190s better. but then anything is better than all the 737-200s I've been on lately

AC domestic winter schedule

AC has just released its winter 2011/2012 schedules.

Very minimal changes where YEG is concerned.

Hardly worth really mentioning but:

YQR losing 1 weekly (Saturday non-stop gone) and now a DH3.
YWG losing 1 weekly frequency.
YYC gaining 1 weekly frequency.
YMM losing 2 weekly frequencies.

More E90 flying throughout Western Canada (read as YEG-YVR)

And that's it folks!

Overall net loss to YEG is 4 fewer frequencies per week compared to last winter for the Air Canada Group (incl Int'l).

Might have been. I could be mistaken. Just concerned that YEG could be getting down-serviced there, at least in terms of total seats, if not quality of plane.

^ Does this have any importance to YEG other than more naming conventions for the existing flights we have?

More of an FYI. However, this just seems to reiterate that we will not be getting new international service anytime soon as we will continually be fed through YYC, YVR, YUL and YYZ.

This annoucement is good for WS. They are truly started to develop into a good carrier to compete with Air Canada. Once they get their codes in place they will have more success than they are finding on their O&D

^That is surprising since DEN is an airport that seems to be constantly being downgraded from hub status.

But then again they did get a new flight to Reykjavik on Icelandair. An interesting read, though, on incentives for the flight. Geez what a novel idea.

Quote:
DIA officials said they were making about $1.2 million in marketing and operating incentives available to Icelandair for the carrier's first two years of operation in Denver. In addition to marketing support for the flights, the incentives include a waiver of landing fees in the first year and a partial waiver in the second year. DIA's incentives are available to other carriers bringing in new international service, although there are some qualifications and exceptions in the airport's incentive policy. Other incentives for Icelandair are coming from Colorado ski industry and tourism sources.

The challenge the EIA has is being able to backstop airlines because they do not have significant non-aviation revenue. They don't have enough revenue to take on such a risk as going after an International market. Case in point, EIA went to Continental Airlines and guarrenteed that they would maintain a minimum load of [whatever it was] and if they didn't the airport would make up the difference. EIA had the research and were confident enough that the route would be successful and they would not take on a loss. It is much different with a route where the risks are higher and more suseptable to certain constraints because they do not have the non-aviation revenue to cover the costs. The research from the airport may suggest that the route will be successful. However, an international route has greater risks - much larger cost to airport if failed (much more cost associated with over-seas route); economic conditions etc....
EIA is making an effort to bring more revenue to the airport lands that can provide the airport with Capital. The more capital, the more risk they can take - which means going after different carriers and more routes.
IMO - The airport should be considering a more regional economic development approach. Why should the airport be solely backstopping new routes. Many businesses could benefit. AIMCo, the City of Edmonton, other regional communities (CRB) - could all get together and develop a strategy for regional economic development vis-a-vis air service at EIA.
