The Air Transat flights to LGW and MAN are not additional capacity. An operator called Canadian Affair charters in 2 flights per week from LGW and MAN for the winter season mainly for ski packages. Last year, the carrier used was Thomas Cook. Prior to that, Canadian Affair has used MyTravel and Monarch as well. This year, Air Transat will be taking over the route from Thomas Cook.

As for the Stats Canada count if you compare the Stats Canada reported figures to each individual airport authority's figures (western Canada examples):
YYC's variance is about 850,000 passengers
YVR's variance is about 520,000 passengers
YEG's variance is about 100,000 passengers

Stats Canada's methodology of not including non-revs and infants cannot be the only reason for the variances... case in point:

YWG's reported stats from WAA is actually LOWER than the Stats Canada figures? Go figure!

Is monarch not operating to YYC this winter as a result? Oh how things change here in MMUN we are beginning to see several european flagship carriers introduce service. BA is here now and AF and VS have announced service. Also KL is set to announce service to CUN shortly as Martinair withdraws leaving only Arkefly serving AMS. BTW great numbers YEG!!!

Flew in yesterday, expansion is looking good, new tower just about ready to begin taking its real shape. Hotel site fairly quiet still.

Really wish the C-line was more than just peak times...

I did some searching for flights and the best I found was $2k EDM-LONDON-TANZANIA....

Is that a pretty standard cost for getting over there?

No, we are thinking about doing Kilimanjaro next year, and with all the local coverage of it right now it had me curious on flight costs

My mom went to Tanzania a couple of years ago. I'll ask her for any tips on flight costs (she's a wizard with getting you places for a button and a shiny quarter).

I know my South Africa trip earlier this year was a little more than that but it was Edmonton-Calgary-London-Joburg-Port Elizabeth & back skipping Calgary, so not too comparable.

I flew to Tanzania last summer. I flew Edmonton - Toronto - Dubai - Dar Es Salaam. The total ticket came in at just under $2k, and the fact that an 8+ hour layover in Dubai equals a free hotel stay is a really nice perk. I'm not sure if the Toronto - Dubai flight is what it used to be though, I think because of everything that happened in the last year, you actually need a visa to leave the Dubai airport.

London Flight...so I still curious to why people aren't utilizing the London Flight? I just got back from a business trip and out of all my colleagues I was the only one that went through London to get to Denmark. Why? The flight was $150 dollar-$250 more. But I only had 1 1/2 hour layover with no terminal change compared to the rest of the crazy flights everyone got. Where is the communication breakdown of the great flights we have? Are Edmonton marketing strategies really working? I would say no. Maybe they should be aiming more at Travel Agencies that book corporate flights, or at online adverstising on major web booking sites.

Everyone did business with in Denmark from Edmonton will take that flight now, due to their knowledge of my easy flight...why didn't they know before???

That being said. Flight there and back was 95% full, 100% in business.

Were these your co-workers, or just some colleagues? If they work for another company it may be a policy of their employer to book the cheapest flight.

A lot of time the flight is not available. I have done four segments this year, four last year and I think four the year before that. Every time, there has not been one available seat. If people are date specific and wait too long, the flight may be unavailable. I had to pay quite a bit more b/c there were only about a half a dozen seats left and I booked two months in advance. I really think we could support a frankfurt flight.

They were colleagues from my company. We do not have a policy that would prevent us from booking a flight that is only 200-300 dollars more on that flight. We all booked in the same week.

It's unfortunate that they don't upgauge the plane to A330 during the summer months (at least July-August) but ACA is just too tight on tin to be able to shift one from somewhere else. I suspect their yields are just too good on that flight to be able to pull it altogether, as they would probably prefer to fly YEG folks to intermediate stops in this great land of ours, propping up other hubs, before going onward to LHR.

What would be great to know is the breakdown of passengers using the YEG-LHR flight. The fact that there are 5 code sharing airlines (Lufthansa, British Midland, Jet Airways, Middle East, United / Continental) helps with loads i'm sure.

It is true, though, that once things get tight on seat availability for this flight, the price goes up and it is less expensive at times to fly via somewhere else. I think this is partly to do with other airlines competing at YYC, YUL and YYZ so those sector of flights for AC drop in price and overall lower a ticket. So a YEG-LHR-FRA flight might be more expensive than a YEG-YYZ-FRA flight. Someone can correct me if i'm wrong.

As a side note, many people from Central and Eastern Europe that i know unfortunately look at the price only and don't care about stopover length or other bonuses in flying via LHR. It is unfortunate but true.

I think the knowledge and AC's own web site are the issue. The last time over for us, back in March, was tough to get booked through AC's web site. we ended up booking the different legs separately. If you are just going to LHR its a bit easier. just a bit. Also having my travel agent try to set it up was useless since she had us with a overnight layover in Calgary.

When booking I always look at the total travel time as apposed to in the air time. We have figured saving a few bucks is not worth mental and physical health.

I know when I flew to South Africa it would have added another 10-14 hours onto the travel time out if I had flown YEG-LHR as the South African Airways flight doesn't line up as well as YYC-LHR.

I flew into YEG on the way back though, as it lined up fine for the return.

Perhaps this has been talked about before but does anyone know what's going on with the YEG parkade construction? I've picked up / dropped off some relatives recently and it looks like half of the parkade is a construction zone and frankly it doesn't seem like much work is actually going on. Does this have anything to do with the supposed poor parkade construction that PCL did originally? I know this was talked about way back when.

So... one of my flights in latter October is Edmonton to Montreal on AC. Just got an email that they've downgraded the tin from a 737 to an E90.

I like E90s, but does this telegraph that Edm's Mtl volume is just not cutting it?
