You mean the same professional that did work with the City Transit Terminal?

Peel plaza was designed to reflect and compliment the existing skyline. I think once it's complete you may appreciate it as the architects really did their home work on it. I know it's a huge investment, but when you cheapen out on these buildings you end up with the ugly box on a prominent hill AKA Agar Place. Future generations will appreciate the forethought put into this building.

I wanna know whose idea it was to paint over the perfectly fine Union Station commemorative mural in the first place.

I agree with your post. As far as design and materials go, we really are getting what we pay for (no comment on the courthouse cost overruns though ).

I still think Peel Plaza missed some key opportunities to intensify the North of Union area (with things like MIXED-USES, HEIGHT and APPROPRIATELY-SCALED LOT SIZES ), but on the other hand, it means we can direct all that potential intensity and private investment to other central areas that need it like the Waterfront, King Square, Charlotte Street, and Union from Wellington to Prince Edward.

I have been to the Taj Mahal and enjoyed it's splendour. There is absolutely nothing about Peel Plaza that evenly remotely resembles the beauty and grace of the Taj Mahal. It is truly an amazing piece of architecture, and takes your breath away.

I am guessing you're being sarcastic, and hopefully so, otherwise you're seriously undervaluing the Taj, one of the most beautiful buildings on Earth.

As for needing PP - we do need it, the current facilities are lacking and the police need a better spot. Could it have been elsewhere - absolutely. What is going up is better than a parking lot which is what that was as long as I can remember. There would have been better uses for the land, but noone else was stepping up. If people want to invest in mixed use, residential or other development we have plenty of space uptown to do it. Peel Plaza isn't stopping anything, just adding to the uptown. Bad timing, sure, but when wouldn't it have been? People always are complaining about potholes, taxes, water, sewage, etc. If the City waited until there were no complaints nothing would be done. I certainly think they could have handles their PR and communication better as well, but what they are doing isn't 100% bad.

Meh, the Victoria Memorial in Kolkata is just as impressive in my opinion.

Agreed. We should build one on the former Downey's Ford site on Crown.

Both beautiful, but the Taj is moreso. There is a feeling of something special there I thought. The Victoria Memorial is amazing as well, and the museum and huge gardens are quite something, but at the Taj it just felt otherworldly and more interesting to me. Humayan's Tomb in Delhi is another breathtaking piece of architecture. As is the Victoria Terminus in Mumbai.

That is just the tip of the iceberg for beautiful Indian architecture and buildings. So much to see and experience there.

Certainly is an interesting place. The last time I was there I saw two people die right before my eyes; a guy on a scooter on the road to Goa, and a man who fell off the train on the way to Varanasi. My friend and I met a guy from Spain who called it quits after 1 day. Couldn't handle the extreme poverty.

Don't tell me you went on a package tour?

haha, the only package tour I went on was guided by me and the people I met along the way randomly. I have traveled a lot and always plan my own routes or just go where the wind takes me. I roamed around India going to places that sounded interesting to me. Some of the hotspot tourist areas weren't that great. Goa for example isn't as nice as some similar places in Thailand, but it gets rave reviews from people who go there.

I can't say I saw people die when I was there, but I certainly saw some interesting things that still stick with me years later.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled SJ discussion!

It looks like they are starting construction of the new Leons on Rothesay Ave. Right next to the old one. I heard its supposed to be 2 1/2 times the size of the old.
Came across this link today, I'm sure there will be some updates of the Leons Construction as it happesn

Any word on whether they will be using the additional space to start selling quality furniture?

The Justice Palace is coming along quite nicely. And I agree with cdnguys about the glass on HF Condos. Going to look really nice once its' finished.

I'm excited to see how Union Street turns out once that is all finished, too!
