now that's a sexy skyscraper. wow wee!!!!! there is not one un-beautiful thing about that delicious work of art. it could be built in Dubai and it would still stand out as a special tower. that is just too awesome to be true. quick everyone pray to the skyscraper gods for this one.

This is exactly what Edmonton needs. I've always regarded the city as an architectural wasteland despite liking the city a lot. This single tower will help erase that opinion. I'm really hoping this goes through.

I guess you haven't visited the Hotel MacDonald, Art Gallery of Alberta (new one), Whyte Ave between 103 and 105 Streets, Jasper Ave east of 97 Street until the Flatiron, 104 Street north of Jasper, the Legislature grounds, High Level Bridge, City Hall, McLeod Building. Though I agree, for high rises, this pretty much tops everything, even though Manulife, CN, and Commerce certainly aren't hard on the eyes.

Having lived in Edmonton on and off for 10 years now, I have to agree with giallo. Sure Edmonton has a handful of nice buildings, but the overwhelming majority of the city isn't particularly attractive. This isn't an insult, it's just the result of modern urban planning which is inevitably aesthetically shitty no matter where you go.

Oh, I agree, the vast majority is uninteresting and dull. But I did want to point out not everything is "wasteland" material. There are nice areas here and there, like Strathcona, Glenora, Cloverdale, and The Highlands. Certain specific buildings right downtown (aforementioned AGA, City Hall, McLeod, Manulife, et al) aren't hard on the eyes either and there is the Victoria Promenade in Oliver. For gritty yet interesting areas there's Jasper from 97th to 96th as well as Little Italy and Chinatown on 97th north of 105 Ave. It's no Montreal, or even Winnipeg, but certainly isn't an entire wasteland.

The last 10 years have been all Toronto, with a bit of Calgary, Vancouver, and Montreal thrown in. Edmonton's our 6th biggest city, and one of our fastest growing. It's about time Edmonton joined the party and contributed to the skyscraper boom.

-the Westin 21 floors
-1009 20 floors
-Southam 14 floors
-the new Marriott 40 floors (u/c)
-maison hantee 17 floors (proposal)
