There's an article on the Leader Post website tonight about splitting lots. A resident in Lakeview (which is zoned for 50' lots) wants to split his property into 2 x 25' lots, build on one and sell the other. (The article is odd; it starts talking about him not affording renovations, yet in the same article it talks about new construction so I'm not sure what the current state of the lot is.)
It doesn't say he can't afford it, it says that the renovations would be very expensive.
This type of thing happens all over the city with trademark homes, and a few smaller companies, there must be an anomaly with this lot that won't let him do it.
Has anyone heard anything about Centre Square Place in the last little while? How are sales? Do they have an expected timeline? The website has had the presentation centre 'opening soon' for a while now.
Also, has anyone seen any indication of price ranges? I imagine they are probably similar to the Gardens on Rose.
I did notice that they have added the floorplans for the 10th floor to the website now, which are 3 bath, 3 bedroom + den layouts. Maybe this is geared more towards attracting families downtown which is fantastic, as we decided to move out of the Hamilton building for more space once we had our first baby and planning a second (and I really miss living downtown). However I imagine at almost 2000sf and almost 900sf of balcony the prices won't be too family friendly. There are very limited options when looking for 3 beds downtown. Hopefully this building has a little more success than the Gardens on Rose and Capital Point.

There is a presentation centre in Centre Pointe Plaza on Broad. I do not know if it is actually open but there is a sign up.

yeah their website gives an address and hours for their presentation centre but on the same page (and others) also says 'opening soon'. Also, I have registered for email updates but have not yet received anything saying it is open. I guess I will have to go by the site or send them an email to find out.
...well at least partially. The stretch between Lorne and Cornwall is open. I walked on it this morning. I am going to describe it in one word: WOW!
The pavers are way nicer than I thought they would be. They look like real stone and definitely unique for Saskatchewan. The fake tree shades look like they are going to be very cool. At night this will be amazing with all the unique lighting. I truly believe this will be tranformational for our downtown. The space is absolutely huge. I do not think we can even imagine all the uses this will have.
I had a chance to walk on it as well. Great addition thus far to the downtown. Still lots more work to do before completion.
I hope they put some planters in between the light sabre lights along the north side of the plaza. This will help to define the space a little bit better and provide some aesthetic value. I think permanent planters would have worked fantastically, but hopefully they put in the planters that we are accustomed to seeing along other streets.
This is a good example of a nice mix of old buildings and new, and why I think the Gordon building and the one west of it should be renovated and saved. With the plaza there these building would now be great spots for some new retail on the main level, some cool restaurants or a small clothing store would be great. However I fear Harvard will continue to let them deteriorate and make the arguement they are too costly to renovate.
^ If it looks anything like that, consider yourselves lucky.
It will probably be quite similar to the one just completed in Blairmore in Saskatoon. A big brown box.
