Quote:
990 Bay St (currently a bistro restaurant named Bistro 990), and 1000 Bay St. (currently a parking lot), have been purchased by Cresford, with an eye to develop the site.

Cresford has already submitted an application to rezone the area. The application calls for a mixed use 32 storey condominium with ground floor retail, 355 residential units and 4 levels of below ground parking.

184m? I seriously doubt it'll ever get there. 175 tops.

I agree... 184 meters is pretty tall for a 50 storey residential building.

Probably between 170 and 175 max.

MLS - 50 storey tower is just 174

The 54 storey tower at MLS is 186 meters though.

Globe to build a new home at Front and Spadina

ADRIAN MORROW
From Tuesday's Globe and Mail
Published Tuesday, Jul. 26, 2011 3:00AM EDT

Quote:
The Globe and Mail’s future home will be a low-rise building faced with glass at the corner of one of downtown Toronto’s busiest intersections, publisher Phillip Crawley announced Monday in a meeting with staff.

The new development will be built on a spot currently occupied by a car dealership at Front Street and Spadina Avenue, next door to the paper’s current address.
Quote:
While The Globe will be the primary tenant for the building, which will likely contain six or seven storeys, there will be room for other tenants as well as a possible space for public events.
Quote:
The current facility, constructed 48 years ago, was previously owned by the Toronto Telegram, which folded in 1971. It will likely become the site of a high-rise building after The Globe moves out.
Quote:
Construction on the paper’s new headquarters is expected to start in 2012.

Hey do you have a link to the official height on this thing, or where your getting your information. I'm curious because MLS in Toronto has a commercial podium, 11 storeys in fact, and is only 174 meters. Now there might be some fancy roof element that may explain it, although MLS has a crazy huge tall roof element.

Definitely glad to hear MaRS II is back on track. One of my favourite blocks in Toronto will finally be complete, as well as the view vista looking down University Ave from Queen's Park.

Here's a couple for renderings from the announcement:

There is an official height, it just hasnt been decided upon yet. I'll let you know when the height is more or less finalized. And dont fret if these two dont turn out that tall, there are a few more chances for something around 200m in this area.

Also the 10 floors of commercial at this point are retail and parking so they will actually be shorter than the residential floors.

Looking forward to the Monde project, the design change was a big upgrade IMO. The podium reminds me of the Queen's Quay Terminal in the central waterfront, as in this will be the centrepiece of the East Bayfront.
