Well... you're probably right. One Bloor, is coming off the list shortly, as is the 8th Ave Place - Tower Two in Calgary. - That will free up some room for towers in the 160 to 170 meter range to pop onto the list.

Right now its 50,44,27. 50 and 44 being condos and 27 being office. Isn't it?

Yes but the condos have a 10 storey commercial podium - so its 10 + 40, 34, The 27 is likely to be all condos.

Probably loooking at something like ~184, 163, 100

The 27 storey building will be an office tower, at 133m. That is the only thing I can confirm at this point as the condo buildings may actually become one building and the height/design is still not decided on. Also the commercial podium is primarily parking with a bit of retail so it actually has shorter floorplates than the condos.

This will all get built and much more. This is phase one of a much larger project.

I'll post the details and renderings of the next set of towers when it goes public.

Sorry I am not inside on this project at all. I had thought that there were 3 condo buildings in centennial plaza and then the office building that was replacing the former CP accounting building.

Thanks for posting the renderings of the office tower. I know RioTintoAlcan had discussions with CF regarding this site and that they short listed it for a decision this October.

I would have to disagree with that. The main reason that Halifax has a shorter skyline than the largest cities like Toronto and Calgary is because it's much smaller than them. But otherwise Halifax is a fairly tall, non-stubby city for its size. For instance, Ottawa is the size of Calgary and Edmonton, yet its skyline is shorter than either (215m & 146m vs 112m). Victoria is within the same size range as Halifax, but the height of the skylines isn't even comparable (no offense to beautiful Victoria, of course).

Halifax built a 30+ story building way back in the early 70s when the metro population was around 260k. It's just had bit of lull since then. But the city is getting bigger now so it's only logical that development should progress.

I find there's a tendency for BC forumers to view Halifax as a kind of "Victoria East", which is only a rough approximation. The scale of the core parts of the two cities isn't very comparable and this doesn't necessarily come across very well in photos.

For example, the Maritime Centre, which is in the rendering next to the proposed buildings, is 560,000 square feet of office space and 21 floors. It is more than four times the size of Sussex Place, which appears to be the biggest office tower in Victoria (certainly it's quite prominent downtown and is the top drawing in the Victoria diagram).

I think 48 storey condo towers could look great in Ottawa.

I'm pretty sure this will be a successful development. All of Toronto's large suburbs are growing vertically (Sauga, Markham, and now Vaughan) and the urban concept is much welcomed. Expo City is a part of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre master plan, and will be close to the location of the future Vaughan TTC subway station.

If they can sell and build 30 skyscraper condo towers in Markham, selling and building just one in Vaughan shouldn't be a problem.

Then consider the new subway heading right underneath main street in Vaughan.

Richard Walls hopes the tenants for his latest Exchange District project will be so happy they'll be walking -- and sleeping -- on air.
The downtown developer is part of the group that owns 88 Arthur St., and its neighbour, 245 McDermot Ave., two Exchange District buildings where the existing space is already spoken for. With no empty pads in sight, his only available option for development is to go up, right?

Wrong.
One day while standing outside the two properties, he looked up and it hit him right between the eyes. The idea seemed so obvious, he couldn't believe he hadn't thought of it before.
He requires the use of the laneway between the two buildings to service them but the empty space above isn't serving any purpose. So that's where he's planning to build three to four "pocket" apartments -- about 700 square feet each in size -- and rent them out for about $800 a month.
