On the note about the WFC, when I was in NYC in 2010 there was this exhibit at New York Public Library about Lower Manhattan or something (I forget what exactly) and it had information and drawings from this plan created back when they built the Twin Towers.

Under it they would have moved the West Side Highway underground by the WTC and would have built a plaza that would extend from the towers to the river. For some reason they never actually did that, and I really wish I could find more info about that plan (or just maybe the pictures online).

Possibly talking about the infamous Westway project (a testament to why larger things in New York didn't get built for a long time).
http://www.thirteen.org/nyvoices/highlights/road_not_taken.html

There may or may not be a discussion for it over in City Discussions. There have been proposals since then to burry the West Side Highway near the WTC, as recently as a few years ago. But the complications of doing that killed the idea (along with Goldman Sach's possibly backing out of its new headquarters had the state done so).

The first picture kinda reminds me of Flight 11 crashing into the North Tower. The sun is giving the illusion of it.

Thank you for ruining that photo for me. I generally appreciate everyone's input, but I'd seriously consider keeping the macabre thoughts to yourself. I don't need to be reminded that 2,700 people died here.

Come on, mayne. That wasn't necessary. That was the worst day of my life, and I'm sure it was for many others, as well. I was a 9 year old kid who was paralyzed in fear for years thereafter. Don't need reminders of the actual event.

It's really sad that we have to lose someone as good as him, because of few morons.

While I know that there are some people that are going to be offended with my earlier post, I must post what I see and what my input is. Or in simpler terms, what I see in my eyes when I saw that picture. I don't think its wrong to point out events of 9/11 in certain instances, such as this one. I think it is a way to remember it, and most importantly, the lives lost during it. I'm not the first to, and I will definatley not be the last.

Tower 1 is 910 feet tall, work is underway for the 74th floor. (Beyond 1100 to the crane tips)

Tower 4 is in the 400's maybe close to 500?

Thank you for this comment. Well, WTC 1 is on the 76th floor and WTC 4 is on the 40th.

Is it me, or does 1WTC look like its almost reached the height that it would have been under that one Libeskind proposal? If you look at the old renderings and take away that lattice/cage structure above the main building, it almost looks to be the same height as the real 1WTC is now.

I shudder to think that we'd have been seeing the (semi) topping out so soon.

it's still only on 73, or 74th if you count an unfinished floor.

That's right, but the core steel that's up brings it to 76.

Forgive the abundance of photos from the same vantage point. We've waited so long for something to return Downtown's skyline to prominence, and we have arrived.
