The Port Authority of NY & NJ is using OxBlue cameras to document construction progress of the World Trade Center. One of these cameras has now been made public so that the great progress can be shared
It IS a mast. Nobody builds 300+ foot tall antennas on office buildings. They build masts, to which antennas are attached. The antenna is only the part that is broadcasting. The non-emitting structure is a mast.
STR is absolutely right. I don't to beat this horse to death, since it has been covered earlier, but, SOM's own website fully describes the difference...
The fact MadGNome was questioning (and which I believe he was right to do so)... Is you are confusing an antenna with a spire. CTBUH does not count the antenna as part of the official height because it is not part of the structure. The Top Out dates for the old twins were accurate and independent of the later additions of antennas. The north tower had a couple of versions of antennas and the South Tower never received one. They can not be counted as part of the architectural structure despite the fact that both towers were designed to support future antennas.
As we all know from countless debates on here about the new 1WTC... It will have a Spire and not an antenna (Though I will always debate that distinction) and it therefore must be counted as part of its official height and not until its last piece has been installed will 1 WTC be indeed Topped Out OFFICIALLY. Despite what the Port Authority wants to call it.emphasis added
It is interesting to note, the ESB had THREE official Topping Out ceremonies:
"In the first, at sidewalk level, Alfred E. Smith, then a popular former Governor, cemented in place a stone containing a time capsule as 5,000 people watched. Nine days later, steelworkers raised a 48-star flag 1,048 feet above Fifth Avenue to mark the completion of the steel frame. In November, another flag was raised when the last piece of steel - intended as a mast for mooring dirigibles - was placed in the tower.
Here's my timelapse video of the 1WTC. I started this back in September 2010 and I am still working on it. I am working on a full- 5 minute version of this timelapse. It was originally planned to be uploaded once the 1WTC tops off, however I feel that I should make a preview video of it, so people have an idea of what the full version looks like. It's short- no more than 35 seconds, but it should suffice in the meantime. Credit to OxBlue (PA Cam) for the webcam images.
^^^Love the colors in the last one, especially the contrast of the cool blue of 1WTC and the warm color of the Verizon building.

It's starting to blend in just like the original Twin Towers did.
Please don't ever say that again.. It will never even come close to looking like the old WTC. They should've freaking rebuilt them the same way they were..
Yeah, the new WTC looks cool and all, but the Twin Towers had a meaning to America.

What? No they didnt, people hated the Twins. All i ever remember hearing was that they were two big bulky boxes with no character that only served to Congest Lower Manhattan and make the West Side highway a living hell. Only after their destruction did they gain immortality but before that they weren't very liked.

I really like the last 4 photos in particular. They all show BOTH the 1WTC and 4WTC rising in the picture, no matter what angle the picture was taken at. This goes to show how big and noticeable these towers are, even if they're still not even half-way done (regarding the 4WTC, not 1WTC).
