My only problem with the Burnaby tower is the tower in the park part of it. And on second thought i don't really have a problem with it being a tower in the park see how everything else around it is a tower in the park.

People complain a lot about these cookie cutter buildings in Metro Van, but I see a lot of bland apartment blocks all over Europe and Asia as well. Dleung provided some examples of great residential architecture from Berlin I believe it was, and it was IMO no different from what you get here.

Only if it comes with some form of street life, which is something Burnaby apparently wants to avoid at every opportunity. They can cram as many towers in there as they like, but if they're all tower-in-the-park designs it's not going improve the area one bit. And it's hard to blame the mall for Metrotown's lifelessness when all of Burnaby's other town centres are just as bad.

Street life IMO comes from a market street or a high street. There is no incentive for the developer to build retail into their project because all of the demand for it is sucked up by shopping malls in Metrotown, Brentwood, Lougheed, etc.

Edmonds has no mall in the immediate area, and you can see an urban area quickly developing from nothing a few years ago.

edit: just found out its been delayed and new opening is set for july 22

I don't give a **** about Wal mart, but Thrifty Foods???? Thats awesome! I love Thrifty Foods.

It annoys me they had to add another intersection on Lougheed for this development.

ummmm what about the Walmart in Lougheed or Guildford or Capilano ... tens of thousands of people are within walking distance of those 2 alone.

as for Thrifty Foods they have a location in Vancouver proper locked down I am told!

a crane has gone up in that patch of land between the lougheed and hwy #1 in coquitlam - across from where the cactus club is - a new command centre or something is going there right?

Correct - that would be the Ministry of Transport's Regional Transportation Management Centre for all regional operations/administration.

Today I noticed that the large apartment complex at the NE corner of North Road and Foster has been purchased by BlueSky/Bosa. Unless they're moving into the landlord business (hint: Evergreen corridor), I think we can expect to see a fairly substantial development a la NorthGate Village/Silhouette towers. I'm not sure if this is the same Bosa that's going to redevelop the Safeway up the road.

I don't know this as fact, but it does appear that BlueSky is a possible rental arm of Bosa as they are behind one of the STIR projects in Vancouver as well. I also believe they've bought the old Rona site in Richmond.

theres a new showroom set up at burquitlam plaza for something called Georgia - looks like a low rise development - i think its going behind the safeway along como lake - beacuse most of those houses were bought up and some are boarded up now

BlueSky was started last year by one of the Bosa brothers; it is a separate and independent company from the other Bosa companies (though they may partner with them on certain projects). They're looking at doing all sorts of projects including commercial.
