Hey guys, I need some advice.

Im going to a cocnert at the Staples Center on Saturday.

That same day, the final of the Gold Cup will be played at the Rose Bowl. I cant make it to both events, but I do want to watch the game somewhere near the Staples Center.

Advice for best place to watch? Good food is as important as good TVs. Also, my eyesight is sort of bad, so a place with BIG TVs (or lots of them by every table) would be best.

There are MANY MANY options. if you want to stay right next to staples center, you can go 30 feet away and watch at one of the following: ESPNZONE, Yardhouse, Lucky Strikes, or the ten other restaurants at LA Live. if you want to venture a bit into Downtown, i would recommend Dublins on 7th between Fig and Flower, which has dozens of flat screens and good food, Big Wangs on Grand and 8th (typical Bar food), Public School on Hope and 6th (really good food), Riordans Tavern on 9th and Fig (good burgers and food)

So I wrote the BID about it and got this response:

Thank you for submitting this. The DCBID used to put flower baskets on all of the light poles along the major corridors, however after they served for several years we were unable to keep up with the costs and the constant maintenance that they required. We are currently exploring various options on what we can do to beautify the area and I will make sure this is brought up to our Operations Committee, for reconsideration the next time we meet. One again, thank you for your feedback.

Director of Operations
It would be great if the additional funds amassed by the BID as new businesses open up downtown could be used to cover the costs of maintaining flower baskets like this. It really does make a huge difference, both in beautifying the neighborhood and in providing a unifying design element to let visitors know "This is Downtown."

Agreed that it would be nice. However, the BID doesn't get its funding from businesses; it comes from property owners in a fixed cost per floor area. The only way the assessments go up is during renewal (coming up) or if new construction projects open up in the BID territory, thereby increasing floor area on which assessments are based (I may be wrong about this though).

Really, the funding just isn't there. There have been cutbacks in other services too recently. The focus is still on trying to get services, retail and residents down here. I hope with the upcoming renewal, there can be some more funding for things like this. A little more money for tree planting, graffiti removal, street cleaning and power-washing would do wonders.

Just a side note: Many of the landowners outside of the Financial District do not like the assessments, prefer to go it alone on marketing, safety and cleanliness, and do not want to be included in BIDs (DCBID, Historic Core BID, South Park BID, Fashion District BID, etc). The lack of vision and forward-thinking astounds me. See: Historic Core, Toy District, Northern Fashion District. The big property owners in the Financial District really do all the heavy lifting, despite most of the benefit going toward properties to the south and east since they need the most work/services.

According to the NYT, the FBI seized the servers used by the Curbed websites as part of an investigation into hacking.

My concern with ESPN Zone is if theyll have the game on TVs. I dont know what else is happening in the sports world at 5pm Saturday. Also, is the food good?

Ive been to and enjoyed Yardhouse, but it was lacking in TVs.

Im going to read some reviews about all those other ones you mentioned, thanks!

Apparently ESPN has a calendar of all US sporting events and...

Los Angeles Angels at Los Angeles Dodgers
4:10 PM ET

I assume there is interest of this game in LA....

Less interesting is...

Los Angeles Galaxy at San Jose Earthquakes
6:30 PM ET

And the game I want to watch, which will presumably Mexico-USA is at ~6:00pm

My feelings exactly. Yardhouse is simply tasty, but it's kind of dark in there, and they lack ESPN Zone's flashy screens.

Amazed :D

So I spent 2 days in the city for Britney Spears' concert and it was my first time there.. Omg was I in aw lol pictures on here can never do the city justice... You have to actually be there. The skyscrapers were so much bigger in person and LA Live and the new remodeled plaza isn't as bad as I thought. I enjoyed every moment in the city.

I took my sister to Pershing Square and Angel Knoll's. All the buildings I thought were small in pics and google earth are actually tall and large.

We ate at Bottega Louie which was fabulous, the macarons are DELICIOUS!! My sister said the inside was beautiful and from the outside she thought it was a designer store, Louis Vuitton? Lol

The pedestrian activity in pics and google earth make the streets look empty, when actually there's more ppl than I thought. The city makes downtown sd a joke haha and I enjoy sd... LA just happens to be more trendy, high energy and denser than what we have here.

It's definitely made my love for Los Angeles stronger and I can't wait to go back.

The City was more amazing and exciting than what I was expecting. All the lights were amazing at night.

You're name is Los Angeles Dreamin yet you don't live here, and have never been? Who would have thunk it! Where do you live? And Bottega Louie sure is good. I'm not even a sweets person, yet I always get desert there. There, and Aburiya Toranoko (Green Tea pudding is amazing).

Ok, so having read reviews online, ESPN Zone is out.

I think my plan is this:

Park on Figueroa between 8th and 9th. Last time I was there, it was $5 flat rate. I hope thats still the case.

Then either walk to Wangs or Dublins for the 6pm game. Not sure which. Strangely enough, I cant find either one on streetview, are they hiding?

And then walk to staples for the 8pm concert.

Big Wangs is on Grand between 8th and 9th, on the east side of the street. If you go there, I would call ahead. For the World Cup Final match, every table inside was reserved, and the only open seating was outside, where the glare made the match more difficult to watch. But they'll definitely have the game on. There's not much else on sports at the moment with NBA and NHL done, and MLB in mid-season games. So for a final match like this, they'll have it on most, if not all, of the TVs.

Haha that's exactly why my name is Los Angeles Dreamin... It's the city im dying to live in. Right now I'm working as a navy police in San Diego, when I finish my service I wanna try and work for LAPD, live and work in downtown. That won't be until like 2016 though, just in time for wilshire grand tower

Im originally from San Diego, I have been to LA, but never been west of west Covina, that's where I have family.
