I've never heard of this town, let alone that they are making towers like this, I'll assume it's a suburb of Montreal or Quebec City.

And today, we learned that the city is going to accept many other 25-30+ storey building on this boulevard. There are 3-4 other projects coming in the next years.

There's nothing wrong/goofy with modern architecture in Oakville IMO. Many of Toronto's highest end condos are built in the modern style (Four Seasons, Shangri-La, Ritz, The Yorkville, etc). For me, it beats the gaudy, stucco, faux-historic architecture typically found on Oakville McMansions. I find faux to be "goofier" than modern anyday.

Well modern is also practical in terms of the developer making the most $/psf. To me both can work well, it just depends on execution and whether it adds variety to the area (all the projects you mentioned were all unique and enhanced their surroundings except for the Yorkville. It's a complete mess and looks like a developer combined a 70's UofT podium with a Vancouver condo)
I hope I'm wrong but this project looks like it'll be about as high end as Concord's projects in North York.

^ehhhh, it fits well for the area. North end of Kerr st, across from a fairly seedy plaza. IIRC there's a really nice looking development in the works on the lot just to the east of rain condos.

Desjardins will invest $125M in its Quebec City (Lévis) headquarters, a sprawling campus regrouping 6 different buildings (accomodating 6000 out of the 10000 employees of the Group in the region) which will now be linked through undergroud tunnels. The entire complex will be modernized and will now be called "campus Desjardins de la Coopération". The bulk of the money will be used to built a new 15-story highrise which will seek the LEED Platinum certification. It will have 380 000 ft2 of office space and accomodate 1500 workers of Desjardins's life insurance unit, workers who had to be displaced outside the campus because of the company's strong growth. L'Institut coopératif Desjardins, which is the corporate university of the company, will also be expanded and will be provided with the latest communication technologies. Finally, a new road which will facilitate public transport will be put in place. Construction is set to begin this summer.

Yep, I'm not a fan of the those huge parking lots either... That being said, it is great news for Lévis, who is growing steadily nowadays. I also believe it is no coincidence that Desjardins decided to go ahead with this plan in 2011 since the City is celebrating its 375th anniversary!!

That reminds me a bit of The Rolston in Vancouver in terms of style. Some of the designs in this thread are also showing an influence creeping in from modern Asian (Dubai) and Chinese highrise architecture.

I realize that I've been posting a lot about Quebec City recently so sorry about that (what I'm actually saying here is: I've been posting a lot about Quebec City...deal with it!!!!:lol

The second phase of the Super PEPS (Laval University's sports Pavilion) will break ground very soon. The first phase of the $100M project, which consisted of an indoor soccer stadium coupled with corporate boxes for the football stadium, is well advanced. You can see it on the right in the following picture:

The second phase consists of a second Olympic size swmming pool (1500 spectator seats), an exhibition gymnasium (3500 spectator seats) as well as several training rooms. When completed, it will be the biggest sports complex in Eastern Canada. As with the football stadium, wood will be heavily used in the construction.

When I first saw those renderings I thought it was a renovation of the existing PEPS and I thought thank god because that is one of the ugliest buildings in the country. Great complex, but from the outside it is one big mass of yuck.

Anyway, it looks like the additions will spruce the place up (pun intended)! The soccer portion seems to have gone up quickly, I don't remember it from when I was there in January.

Also could they build additional stands on top of the soccer stadium for a CFL-sized stadium? I'd rather Quebec get a football team than an NHL team

A Toronto group has its eye on the Sault skyline after purchasing the former Northern Breweries site on Bay Street last week.

And before long the condominium complex the group plans to build on the 1.8-acre site at 503 Bay St. will probably catch the eye of everyone who passes.

Sun Avalone Health Care Partners Inc., has started the ball rolling toward construction of a 272-unit residential condominium/commercial/m edical complex that will be unique to the Sault and enhance the local waterfront, says Nirmala Singh, a co-ordinator with Sun Avalone.

Singh says the one-, two-and three-bedroom residential units will be "very affordable." There will also be five floors of large penthouse units.

"The use of the building is private residences, medical training and a suite of medical offices, and there will also be some additional commercial space." said Singh, who was in the Sault on Thursday with the lead architect of the project and a construction representative from southern Ontario.

Singh says the suite of medical offices will include a walk-in clinic, chiropractic, physiotherapy and optometrist services, as well as a laboratory and X-ray facility. The building will also house a medical school for training nurses.

In the foreground is the proposed Homewood Suite. Directly behind the Homewood is the old Federal building. The developer announced last week he'll keep the walls and build the glass addition above the old Federal building. There will be a West and East tower above the old Federal building.

To the right of the Federal building is a 6 storey Staybridge Suite (brown side with black roof) which construction is suppose to start soon. To the left of the Statbridge is a new condo building.

That's not the Federal Building in the picture, it's an old brick warehouse type building that's been very nicely converted to offices.
