I'm having a hard time not watching the CTV feed. Probably good ratings for any media crew checking it out. Despicable things going on, but hard to take my eyes off of it.....

Let Richmond, North Van, Langley, Surrey all set up or keep their celebration <snort> sites. Vancouver needs to go back to the days of Constable Anne Drennan telling people not to come downtown. How much money are those other municipalities going to send to pay to clean up this mess?

The police strategy was a total failure. The situation was just allowed to build and build in front of the Canada Post building with absolutely no response from the police. It was very frustrating to watch, because it was just a few people who were starting to trash a car that started the whole thing. It would have taken no more than ten to twenty police officers to haul those few instigators away and stop the hysteria from beginning. But they allowed the car-trashing (a completely criminal act) to go on unopposed. Then the car was overturned. Then the car was torched. Once the car got torched, that was it, we officially had a riot.

If you don't maintain law and order, then you don't maintain law and order.

The police's non-intervention strategy was totally assinine and had exactly the results that any rational person would expect.

Crowds will hear more "flash bangs", which can include gas, to move people out of downtown area. VPD "escalating their response" #riot

I'm actually watching CTV News Channel and I believe it is the local BC feed they're showing as I don't recognize any of the anchors. It's mostly footage from their helicopter but not a lot of context. They're only now referring to the looting which was first posted here a couple of pages back...

CTV just interviewed some people wandering the streets and asked why they wont leave and they said they heard the skytrain was tear gassed and the streets out are closed and they don't know what to do - i mean come on are people that stupid? they don't know how to survive?

Watching TV, it seems a lot of people are pretty stoked and excited about their city being destroyed.

Apparently, it's a real fine line between the human species and mindless animalism.
