You might as well ask why they do not turn off the electricity. This isn't Libya. Cell service is crucial for emergencies.

The police strategy is clearly to keep crowds moving, rather than contain them. It seems to be working well in the areas that the police are actually maintaining presence. However, I'm surprised how little area the police are able to cover.

I've never liked sports and sports crowds, and this makes me like it even less, if that's possible. In this case, it resulted in ginned up testosterone destroying property and hurting people, in this case all because of an emotional attachment (or dis-attachment) to a group of guys pushing a black piece of plastic on a sheet of ice. I just don't get it.

At this point I'd be happy for the Canucks to move out to Surrey, let them deal with this. God, if I have to listen to one more person on this board whine about how Vancouverites should just suck it up and stop complaining about having to deal with this behaviour downtown...

"Oh, stop complaining if you live downtown, you should just deal with it". Sound familiar?

Let's hope the Sears building burns down! That would be one positive result of this rioting!

People would still go downtown to watch the game. It is the core of the metro and that is not going to change. I don't think that anyone thinks that people that live downtown should have to deal with this crap.

are you seeing the feed from BC? are they just showing the local BC news there? they are doing some amazing reporting

hopefully with all the pictures taken and footage that they can track down people, and people turn in their pictures to help catch them
