They will apparently keep the Mitchell copp facade. It is probably designed by a Montreal architect, so ray wan won't be destroying anything else quite yet unless he does the rest of the complex.

That is really good news. I originally thought they might build the hotel atop a removed/converted copp facade, resulting in a parkade being built there and then 12 stories atop (a la Radisson) but if they still go up from the copp facade, they could "add" an extra story by doing that. Excited about the architect too, those final designs should be interesting.
If we're just focused solely on height, I suppose the HSC hospital hotel, or the new U of M campus residences will be good comparisons. Portage will certainly benefit from it, and its going to be good to have some other "height" construction project happening over the next few summers in addition to CMHR finishing up and Heritage Landing.
