Man, that's awesome news. I always loved the design of this building but my objection to it was that, as the second tallest building in NY in roof height, it would be shorter than the 415m, 1362 foot old South Tower. Now if they would give it one or two more floors it could become taller than the South Tower Somebody should point that out to them.

They will not increase the height of 2 WTC due to the fact the new WTC's design is to have each building shorter then the other to create a stepping stone pattern to One World Trade Center.

This can still remain intact after they would add one floor. That would be 14 or 15 feet more which would mean that the roof height would be 1363 or 1364 feet, which would be 10 or 9 feet shorter than the roof of 1WTC. And even in the current design the pinnacle height of 2WTC will surpass the roof height of 1WTC by 56 feet.

Besides, they wouldn't even need to add one big floor. All they could do is build one more of the small top floors, which would mean that only the roof height would go up, the pinnacle height not.

When the thread title becomes a recurring distraction, that's a good enough reason to put it back to something more conservative. This is the only place on the internet not using the 1,350 ft figure.

It's only a distraction when people let it or insists on it being. There's nothing distracting about the height, it's basically the same as it always has been. No need to keep going over it again and again.

The speed at which this is moving is incredible. It's making me nervous that the time when we wait for these stubs to be fully built is fast-approaching.

Both towers 2 and 3 will reach street level by the beginning of next year, and a decision on tower 3 will be made by next spring, as the first few levels of that tower are built. It's more likely that tower 2 would be the one to stop, but even then I won't be too upset. The hard part is being done now, and when construction resumes - which probably wouldn't be too long after anyway (a year or 2, is just a pause IMO), we'll just be watching this tower rise up into the sky.

I do like the concept of an ascending swirl of towers, but have to wonder: was it REALLY necessary to hire a "Starchitect" like Libeskind to come up with that idea? What, exactly, did his eminence accomplish that could not have been designed by any junior staff architect at a local design firm?

I hope 1,429 is true, but I doubt... We need a rendering that shows, that height has increased.

The WTC site already confirmed that towers 3 and 4 have changed height (barely for 4) but I think it would look silly that tower 2 is barely taller than 3. If tower 3 is 1170 feet to a flat topped roof and tower 2 is only 100 feet higher to a narrower roof it would look kind of silly IMO. It wouldn't look silly however for tower 2 to be roughly the same height as tower 1 because a. it would evoke the original twins having towers of such similar heights and b. tower 1's spire is so tall there is definitely room for extra height, especially to a pinnacle.

I realize that the height description for tower 2 on the wtc site is vague given that it could be interpreted in two different ways but it clearly states tower 3 is 1170 feet. I suppose more information will be revealed come may when the decision is made whether to go ahead with the other towers or not.

^^^I have no more information on Tower 3 than I presume you do, which is why I haven't staked an opinion. I did have more info on this building, which is why I've been vastly more dismissive of certain ideas. Fortunately, there's now public proof, as it looks like they finally cleaned up the description on wtc.com.

2 World Trade Center at 200 Greenwich Street, features a sparkling glazed crystalline form and diamond-shaped summit that will create a bold addition to the New York skyline. Designed by Foster and Partners, the 88-story tower will be the second-tallest skyscraper on the World Trade Center site and in New York City. Located east of the proposed performing arts center and north of the WTC Transportation Hub, 2 WTC will rise to 1,349 feet.

Like I said, no changes were made to this building. Though, they continue in their tradition of half-assing their editing.

I really love the fact that people think that adding floors or height to a building (especially after it's engineered and/or under construction) is simply a trivial thing. It doesn't work that way.

Lots of buildings have done that, and they didn't add any floors they just did the same thing they did with tower 1 and pretend there are more since many are unusually large.

I obviously couldn't tell you if the buliding got taller or not I'm just playing devils advocate because I don't believe it's impossible

I'm still amazed that you are all getting so worked up about the minor changes in height figures. It just happens that sometimes we don't even get the exact height until a tower is completed or near completion. But that's all irrelevant as I'm discussing this for the last time. I don't know why there is a need for Silverstein Properties to keep editing the numbers, but they know a hell of a lot more about it than either you or I do. It could very well be that there was no change. If they say it's going to be 2,000 ft, I'd say it was 2,000 ft until proven otherwise. I won't lose sleep over any of it.

But wtc.com will continue to be the source for WTC information.

WTC.com is intended to serve as a comprehensive and updated source of reliable information on the rebuilding of the World Trade Center (WTC). The website offers the latest news, photographs, video, and others resources documenting progress at the WTC site for the benefit of local residents, workers, and visitors to downtown New York, as well as members of the media, real estate professionals, and anyone interested in this monumental redevelopment project. WTC.com is managed by Silverstein Properties, the Manhattan-based real estate firm that is building Towers 2, 3, and 4 on the WTC site.

In support of Silverstein Properties’ rebuilding efforts at the WTC site, West Corporation, headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, donated the domain, www.wtc.com.
