You should move to Canton Avenue in the South Hills. Steepest street in the US. It's a 37% grade!

I drove up and down this street in my car about down 10 yrs ago. It's frickin scary!

I'll drive it in good weather, but no way in hell would I be on it during the winter months!

When it comes to super steep grades, everyone immediately thinks San Francisco, but there are lots of other cities with the occasional steep grade. For instance, even coastal Ventura California has one street on the north side of downtown that's something like a 28% grade! It's a fairly short stretch, but still, it counts!

Well, I knew it existed, and saw (and enjoyed) the numerous threads. Beyond looking at the various threads, though, I never paid much attention to the city, let alone thought of visiting it. Probably because, when given a choice, I usually prefer visiting a foreign country over visiting a new American city.

San Francisco hills are generally the uniform, undulations found due to coastal topography. It has a certain order. Pittsburgh is just delightfully insane in its jumbled collection of river, creek, and stream cut slopes and valleys. Both very hilly obviously, but Pittsburgh is an entirely different animal, especially considering the way "neighborhoods" developed in the hills.

Love the detail shots of the older buildings. I feel like a bit of a churl for not visiting the urban gem in Western PA for several years. Gotta remedy that. Thanks for the great pics to remind me what I'm missing and motivating a future visit.

I hope the BNY-Mellon building color change does not cause a big wave of buildings to change their color....the now red k and L Gates building from 1968 used to be black when it was the 1 Oliver Bldg....I think they ruined it when they made it red....

We already have a rash of names-logos on top of buildings in Pittsburgh, let's not have another rash of "change the buildings color"....

Can't disagree more. I absolutely love the red... transformed an otherwise anonymous mid-century tower into something bright and eye-catching... last thing Pittsburgh needs is more black towers
