Starting on page 25 of the document, there is a section titled Environmental Trends and Issues. That section focuses on Modes of Transportation, Public Transit Ridership, and Population Density. Check it out.

Thanks Brutopian, when I eventually sleep and complete this project I'll check it out!

There is a development board on Confed Drive that has a picture of the building... the picture shows just under half of the building being converted to a Shoppers Drug Mart, and the rest being available to develop. I have also heard that Sobeys will be filling the space, but it is just local rumour.
My parents friend is on a development board for the Blairmore area, and he says that the new overpass/interchange for Hwys 14 and 7 will be completed by the end of the summer... good for the west side!

I didn't even know it was under construction. Shows how much I get out to that side of town. Thanks sk187!

When the government announced a couple of weeks ago several millions for 22nd and 7 highway the said it was going to be two level crossings. The overpass is on hold. They haven't start yet, but they are putting the gas line for Kensington along the north ditch of 22nd St.

Is the acknowledgement on that board of Shoppers going in new? The board has been up for awhile and I never noticed anything other than a varied lease size being available. Speaking of Shoppers, I don't know if it got mentioned or not, but the Shoppers in Hampton Village finally opened up a few weeks back--nice to have ONE store in the area .

look for the city to be publishing the 2011 Construction map on its website within a couple weeks - this is a map of all the projects that are slated to be worked on - hwys 14&7 interchange is on the list of projects for this year but I doubt it will be near complete by the end of the year (but site grading and some earthwork will possibly be well underway by the end of summer).

Saboroso, Brazilian Steakhouse

Kelsey's may have left 8th Street, but General Manager, Jason Porat will be opening his Saboroso, Brazilian Steakhouse apparently on July 1, 2011. Check out his Facebook page:

Good find, TheCricket!

Looks like Saboroso was looking to hire its Saskatoon GM as early as this January. It says in this (obviously old) job posting (see URL below) that Saboroso is coming to Saskatoon this SPRING. Good description of Saboroso in the posting, too. Looking forward to trying the cuisine!

Another generic Remai project coming

A house located at the top of the University Bridge will be moved by the end of the month to make way for a new 36-unit condominium project.

Remai Ventures Inc. plans to start construction this summer on the parkade portion of the three-storey building at 1010 College Dr., Curtis Zwack, the company's director of real estate, said Monday.

I thought for sure something with some height would be going there, doesn't even look like there'd be room for something like that.

Man, college is gonna look bawllin!! With JD Black, this new one, and then the health science, it's gonna be something to show off for sure. Too bad once your cross the bridge and hit 25th and 2nd, the most interesting thing you can see is the old tram rail tracks showing through the potholes

In other news, this city looks likes — right now, but I saw the sweepers out last night so that's a plus.

Is that from excessive water? Or did it just seem to cave in. There seems to be a small tunnel underneath it already..

Looks like a classic piping failure to me. Considering the area's proximity to the river and all the precipitation we had last summer it is likely a sinkhole due to groundwater movement.

The story on CBC says it was a problem with the storm sewer, according to what the city told them.

MVA says no to Mendel
Cost scuttles suggested home for Meewasin

By David Hutton, The StarPhoenix April 13, 2011

Quote:
The Meewasin Valley Authority (MVA) is out of the running to be the next tenant of a vacated Mendel Art Gallery building.

"We felt there were too many financial risks to make any commitment to a new project at this time," said Gwen Charman, MVA director of operations.

"We only looked at some very basic costs like maintenance and building operations and it came out to about four times what we're paying now because we have a very small building."

Since plans to move the gallery to River Landing were solidified two years ago, the MVA has been considered a leading contender to take over the riverbank gallery site on Spadina Crescent.

So, I wonder if the design for the new MVA centre at its current location released a few years ago is going to be dusted off?
