I checked out the Toronto Star for the story.
Hume: Ryerson's glass vision a dazzler for Yonge and Gould

Very impressive looking building and the interior is something else. The closest building Saskatoon has to that is the Scotia Bank Building.

SNC-Lavalin, an engineering and construction company, moving into former theatre

By Cassandra Kyle, The StarPhoenix
April 8, 2011 7:45 AM

One of the world's largest engineering and construction firms has leased all 33,340 square feet of office space in the Capitol Centre project downtown.

SNC-Lavalin, a Montreal company which recently signed a major contract with BHP Billiton Ltd. for its potash projects, hopes to move into the first two floors of the remodelled movie theatre around Aug. 1.

The company, which employs about 60 people between two offices in the city, plans to take possession of the remaining two floors this fall. [...]

This building is truly beautiful, beside one of Toronto's hottest strip clubs, it is a great addition to the Ryerson campus. I hope the new school of architecture for SK will promote excellence in architecture.

I can't find the transit section in the new era package, mind you I'm running on very minimal sleep, could someone fill me in on the plans if they find it? Saskatoon REALLY needs to work on its transit. More circular routes, more frequent, more rapid.

Now those are the kind of jobs a downtown wants and needs. This will help cement Saskatoon reputation as a world class mining centre.

Reading through the Saskatoon document some interesting things came out to me
  • The document repeatedly says that Saskatoon needs better transit and higher density.
  • Saskatoon proper will have a population of 260,000 in 2026.
  • Major drop in violent crime in recent years
  • Saskatoon will need 3 new fire stations by 2020
  • They're looking into putting a wind turbine at the landfill
  • Saskatoon Transit transports 11.5 million people per year
  • Saskatoon has the second highest cycling rate per capita in Canada
  • 12.28% of Saskatoon uses alternative modes of transportation

This all sounds great, except for the density and transit. Saskatoon is all hot air when it comes to that. I know Saskatoon will never be a city of gleaming high rises like Vancouver or Toronto but it still can't even achieve a diluted form of that. With the approval of double digit suburban neighbourhoods in the works I can't even imagine Saskatoon achieving any level of density which would sustain a more efficient transit model.

you mean, a churrascaria (they make churrasco, which is portuguese for barbecue)

the thing about it is that its a rodizio system, where the waiters bring the meat to your table in a "rotational" system (thats where the word rodizio comes from... from roda (wheel))

Confederation Mall the new site of chain store

Confederation Mall the new site of chain store

Reported By Gerald Bauman
Posted April 8, 2011 - 6:39am

Confederation Mall in Saskatoon gets a major new tenant. Canadian Tire opens to the public at 7 a.m. Friday morning. But it wasn't a far move- the store was formerly located right across the street.

It's now located in the mall's former Wal-Mart location. The store features 84,000 square feet and also has a Mark's Work Warehouse attached. The official grand opening will happen May 12th.

If Regina's two hills towers had a child, it would look like this.

The 8th St. Superstore is right beside a Co-op.

I had also heard Shoppers, or London Drugs (for at least part of that space), was that axed?

I heard about Sobey's last year sometime but never heard anything on Shoppers or London Drugs. Another wait and see.
