Don't like the Casa Loma condo. I don't have a problem with a design it just seems offensive like Tour Montparnesse. Don't need a classy neighborhood destroyed by a crappy condo.

No way that would be build on the grounds of Casa-Loma. no-one would want that condo to replace part of the castle.

Ya the residents comments sounded like somthing a ssc member would say, esp the green glass box comment. In reality Casa Loma residents would be freakin out about their property values. And of course Annex resident Avril Poisson...

I guess since this building hasn't even started excavation yet, it's still a proposal. Fencing has gone up around the site though. This building just got reduced to 10 floors.

This proposal has been in the works for a long time. Destruction of the crumbling Dominican monastery has begun last week and construction of the new wing of the Museum of Fine Arts should start in Autumn. Designed by OMA.

Finally, something out of the 21st century. This proposal is in an already zoned area at the west end of downtown, and should only be subjected to moderate Nimbyism, rather than radical Nimbyism.

Also, this replaces the abandoned 15 storey proposal from last year which was within the heritage area; however, this one would also look better at 15 stories.

Downtown site for massive re-development proposal

Work on a $100 million project that would change the skyline of downtown Hamilton is expected to start as early as June.

The project, conceived by developer Darko Vranich, will bring 628 condo units, two extended stay hotels and 20,000 square feet of retail space to the core.

“Darko is putting his money where his mouth is for this project,” said downtown councillor Jason Farr. “This spring is what they are shooting for to get shovels in the ground.”

For the last decade Vranich has been quietly assembling land downtown and his Vrancor group now owns a large piece of the block bounded by Bay, Hess, King and Main streets. His plan calls for four buildings along George Street, starting with a 134-room extended stay hotel at the west end, adjacent to Hess Street.

What the Fujk!

I am happy and sad at the same time. Great project, that guy is obviously paying for that ptoject out of his own pocket, as the size of it is so huge it might be hard finding buyers for condos in downtown Hamilton.

The projet looks ambitious but I'm not certain that 100M$ is enough to build all the buildings in this proposal.

Vancouver's Development Permit Board approved this project today.
