Looking at the flight history I'm going to guess it was an NHL charter with their Jetz division.

I believe any AC flight number over 7000 is a Jetz flight.

Nice planes - 60 business class seats - full food service - get treated like Kings!

I would expect them to fly in the day before, sleep, prepare during the day and fly out late after the game.

Right now the only carriers on LAX-YYZ are AC (5 daily flights), AA (1 daily flight only) and VX (1 daily flight, but soon to be canned). Westjet tried and failed on that route and have not flown it for ages.

So it's a pretty dominant AC route. Yes, it gets competition from US carriers via a range of one-stop connections through each of their respective hubs, but other than AA's 1 daily non-stop, AC has the non-stop market in the bag.

LOL, well then I guess the strategy worked. I was living in L.A. and Toronto in early '08 and at that time, there was lots of metal between the two airports. I flew a lot of Westjet to LAX in those days. Flew in the front on AC back in '06 and it was incredible.

Is it true that the only Euro non-stop from Edmonton is LHR? At least that's what I glean from YVR's website...

It is the only scheduled non-stop yes, amazing that there isn't a FRA flight.

Yes and having been on it recently I can say its great to be able to travel Over without going through TO or Calgary. and the FRA flight would make sense with all the eastern Europeans living here. But maybe Berlin would be better. (Air Berlin)

Once they start getting new wide bodies again I could see them reallocating a 767-3 to YEG - FRA to test it out. Right now I think they are pretty tight all around.

Trying to help family in Edmonton plan Euro trip this coming October. REALLY want to minimize hassle of connections for them. Will not fly them through Calgary, if at all possible.

YEG - LHR - etc, second best would be YEG - YYZ - Europe

It goes beyond the number of eastern Europeans living in Edmonton, FRA is a gateway to many other international destinations, Africa and Middle East being two of the major ones. There are many companies that do business (mainly the Mid-East) and residents with family in these areas.

You would end up with far lower yields than on just one of the routes me thinks.

I agree to. Slots in to LHR are very lucrative, and you don't want to risk YEG losing those slots to YVR or another airport.

FRA will come after 2012 expansion. Airlines that are not charters like to be able to feed passengers in YEG as well. In 2012 more gates will be opened meaning more frequencies to other places more than likely...meaning we should see some changes.

^I think the gate issue was only an issue for morning flights. With some of the downgraded flights, i'm not sure if this is even a problem anymore.

Flights to Europe arrive in the afternoon and depart in the evening and there are no gate issues at these times so connecting passengers have nothing to do with no more flights to Europe.

The bottom line is all the Star Alliance (AC and LH) partners feed through YYC, YUL and YYZ and WestJet (via KLM and now American) feeds through YYC and YYZ respectively.

Until AC or WS change their ways, nothing will change. We need Air Berlin or Condor to fly here AND we need to support those flights if they do come here.
