I have to admit, it is a beautiful bridge and i am insanely jealous. I don't know why here in Winnipeg all of our new bridges have to be so boring and utilitarian (except the Riel Esplanade of course). A bridge like that would have made quite a statement for our new Disraeli river crossing.

Yup, it is from our oneway north feeders from the south side into downtown.

This is what the future home of Les Grands ballets canadiens, LADMMI and Tangente (3 dance companies) will look like. The project will be wrapped around the historic Wilder building in the Quartier des Spectacles. Construction is expected to start this year. The beige part is wood.

I don't understand it either, hello bottleneck. What are we going to do 10 years from now when it becomes a serious problem again? Build an identical bridge beside it? I hope not but replacing a 10 year old bridge wouldn't make any sense.

lrt will be in the south east by then (hopefully) taking some stress off the bridge

^ There is no guarantee that the LRT will get built, this investment looks like a gamble.

your right, the south east lrt is officially cancelled. dont know how im gonna break the bad news to the patient folks of millwoods...

I've heard the reason they don't want/need a bigger bridge is that the roads North of the river can't handle a wider bridge than 3 lanes. This would then become the bottleneck. "What happens to the traffic when you get it across the river?" was the sentiment.

Traffic disperses multiple ways as it heads to downtown from the bridge I don't think adding an extra lane is going to cause problems further down the road.

^ thanks dylan. the urban design panel suggested the below to the architect/developers. Hopefully we'll see some added height -

"They thought the tower needed more height to give it added drama.
One Panel member suggested starting the slope at the top of the tower at the height of the Fairmont Hotel. The Panel felt that the extra height would only impact the view cone slightly. They also agreed that it would increase the architectural excellence of the project, and create a more dynamic composition of building heights in relation to the Pacific Rim Fairmont and Shaw towers"

Also, a new 32s condo planned for downtown south called Maddox.
those aren't spandrel panels but clay panels. it will be interesting to see the end result.

I cannot tell if I like Maddox or hate it... seems very heavy either way though, in a sasso/vetro sort of way.

I didn't realize their were so many proposed buildings in that area. Gonna go there next weekend and get a few pictures of the one that are under construction and maybe I will check out the area where these proposed buildings will be.

If there was a beach here, this could be the Miami Beach of Toronto.. All these condos, and tall condos too. It won't be long before all the pint sized condos there now are hidden from sight.
