I think it looks topped out except for the mechanical penthouse "fins".
Also not sure about the "canopy" for that corner balcony. The renders seemed to show it angled up sharply
(i.e. different angle than the balcony floor), and some wooden forms up there suggest
that it has not been poured yet (hard to tell).

In my pics from a couple of days ago, see the wooden posts at the top?
It looks that those may eventually support a more steeply angled form for that canopy.
(or it's already hidden in there) We'll have to wait and see.

You can see it in DLeung's model pic. The corner canopy is on a steeper angle than the floor.

In addition to adding to the CBD skyline and the density of downtown, I think that The Georgia will set a new benchmark, particularly for height, and for style also, that new "supertall" (*koff koff*) developments will set their bottom-line standards by. Although the Shangri-La is the tallest (and therefore sets a precedent in that domain) it is, although pleasant and inoffensive, rather undramatic except for the shiny glass windows. There's the looming phantom of "The Turn" but it may well remain just that: a phantom. Buildings like Wall Centre and now The Georgia set a standard in height, but perhaps more importantly, in originality of design, and that's equally important as height, if sometimes not moreso.

one very slight disappointment

Looking at the website for the "Rosewood Georgia" that WHATNEXT provided, it is evident that this will be the truly classy, elegant hotel that it deserves to be. Wonderful crystal chandeliers, elegant dining rooms, beautiful guestrooms ......

However, that "one slight disappointment" is the hotel rooftop. There were pictures of people at tables, a waiter in his blacks and whites, people sipping champagne ..... but it's private (and therefore I would guess, available only to guests with mega$$$$$$$$). That's business, though, and money is the bottom line.

Nevertheless, it seems a shame that there could not have been a restaurant on that rooftop (something like the Park Plaza in Toronto that I recall from years back)

A rooftop restaurant there with a wonderful Continental menu would have been in a nearly-ideal position to soak in that big-city urbanity that Vancouver is finally developing. Ah well ... nothing is perfect, so I cannot legitimately complain. But still .....

I completely agree! I think they missed a great opportunity for better utilizing the rooftop. What is there is seems to be an overbuilt and over-programmed jumble of jacuzzi hot tubs, glass and steel canopies, and heavy-duty planters. I will be very interested to see how it looks once it is finished and all the construction detritus is removed, and plants and furnishings installed. It will optimistically be a lot better than it appears now.

Wow, the hotel looks great! 5 nice restaurants, and a nice pool area. I may have to give it a try when it opens~

Some pics from the site:

I think this will give the Hotel Vancouver a run for its money, as far as "grand" hotels go. Someone needs to spend a few hundred million to renovate that yucky place.

Their $3000 a night "Lord Stanley" suite has the roof-top patio, pool, and fireplace

Quote:
The Lord Stanley Suite is a two-bedroom suite located on the 12th floor of the hotel, and is 1, 280 sq. ft. The Lord Stanley’s distinct feature is the private rooftop garden terrace, boasting a plunge pool and a fireplace. The roof top terrace offers unobstructed views along Howe Street to the east, and Georgia Street to the south, and is large enough to hold a reception for 25 comfortably. A spacious living room adjoins an en-suite washroom and contains a seating and dining area with a dining table that will seat 8 comfortably. The suite contains two large bedrooms – the Master bedroom contains one king size bed and adjoins a 5-piece washroom, with heated marble floors, a fully tiled walk-in shower with a Rain Forest shower head, large luxurious soaker tub, dual sink vanities and a separate toilet area. The second bedroom adjoins a 4-piece washroom with heated marble floors and a fully marbled walk-in shower with a Rain Forest shower head.

§§§ ... "you can always go ... DOWNTOWN ....." §§§

Great shots! That "big city" feeling is really taking hold in Vancouver, from what I can see, and The Georgia is an elemental part of it.

Thanks.
Based on the model, the peaked fins on the SE corner will be about twice the height of the mech penthouse on the NW corner (one more equivalent).

looks like there are a lot of "short" buildings northeast of Hotel Georgia. What are the chances of those being redeveloped in the future?
