It's really cool to be able to see the Royal York Hotel in the skyline, like in that last pic. It instantly gives the skyline more soul.

In that picture. also notice that Commerce Court North is clearly visible, though it's far more hemmed in than the Royal York.

So I wouldn't compare Calgary to Shanghai.

As impressive as Calgary is for it's population. It's more comparable to some U.S cities such as Atlanta or LA. with their suburbs canvasing the downtown core. But Calgary is much more livable in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure he was being facetious.

There's nothing in Canada (certainly not Calgary, and not even Toronto) that comes even close to the Shanghai experience, in terms of urbanity, vibrancy, transit, skyline, etc, etc, etc.

That gap on the left side of the picture needs to be filled with highrises, so that there is no break between fortyork/west harbour and downtown and cityplace.

It will be. Parade II, 510 Bremner, Library Distract Condos and CityPlace: Quartz are all planned or U/C in that gap.

^ In fairness, it looks like there is sign which restricts parking at certain times, so perhaps its only a bike lane between 7 o'clock in the morning and 6 o'clock at night on weekdays or something like that?

Nice shot! The building on the left is Hotel le Crystal right? I stay there every time I am in Montreal. It's a little bit more expensive than the average hotel but the suites are top notch and the rooftop hot tub overlooking downtown and Mont Royal is well worth it!
