They really need to update the website to reflect the new ownership and to give the public updates about the status of the project rather than us having to sit around and wait for the newspaper to write an article about it.

There is always this mystery surrounding these type of projects that leaves us with questions and rumors. But hey it does force us to go out and dig for information.

Kinda slow in here lately.. Anyone up for some updates on those projects kickin' around town? The Holiday Inn, That office building with the crane (sorry can't remember what the project name is), River Centre Office proposal, the new bridge, etc??

Would be nice for us out of towners to see how these projects are coming along.

I did a lot of driving around today so I decided to snap some pictures. As the out of towners can see it was another beautiful SK day.



Here's our depressing looking traffic bridge. If they're so afraid of it collapsing then maybe they should do something about all the snow accumulation.





Looks like they're clearing out some of the trees from the RLV site. Very preliminary site prep, but more action then we've ever seen up until this point.

Target Names Tony Fisher President of Canadian Operations

MINNEAPOLIS (Jan. 18, 2011) —Target Corporation (NYSE: TGT) announced today that Tony Fisher has been named president of Target Canada. In this position, Fisher will be responsible for building the team, establishing the headquarters and leading the day-to-day operations of the corporation’s recently announced expansion into Canada.

Last week, Target announced that the company has acquired leasehold interests in up to 220 sites from Zellers Inc. and plans to open 100 to 150 Target stores across Canada beginning in 2013. The expansion will bring Target’s broad assortment of unique, high-quality merchandise at exceptional values to Canadian guests coast-to-coast.

Fisher joined Target in 1999 and has held a variety of leadership positions at the company. He was most recently promoted to vice president of merchandise operations in 2010 where he led the corporation’s efforts to enhance guests’ in-store shopping experience through technology advances and process improvements.

A better question might be when was the $42 million issued for tender? To the best of my knowledge, the only actual tender package that has been issued for this project was the excavation & shoring tender in the fall of 2008 (no contracts ever awarded) and then the same package approximately one year later (again, no contracts awarded).

Nothing tendered out as of today and more will be known in February - March.

Talked to a city coun. today and it looks to be official that Affinity is moving into the FNUC building.

One thing caught me off guard though. After walking around downtown, did anyone else know that they have 5 offices in like a 3-4 block radius?

I'm guessing this will remove about 100-150 people from downtown, and hey guess what? More available parking spaces!

Ken Auchs spoke about this at a luncheon a few days ago. He said that they the project will include a 20,000 sq. ft. addition while trying to keep most of the architectural appeal of the current building.

He also noted that while they will have 150 surface stalls this will be done with high end landscaping, curbing and lighting throughout to make it look as appealing as possible.

Finally he noted that they will be keeping the current ice rink and constructing a warm up building for the community as well as maintaining it. So sounds like they are trying to give the community as much back as they can despite them developiong an office building.

I don't mean to pry but if you are some how affiliated with the project it would be great to hear some regular updates since the majority of this forum stands behind the River Landing Village project.

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) today announced a $350,000 contribution to the Meewasin Valley Authority to complete the redevelopment of Saskatoon’s most famous outdoor skating venue. Speaking this morning at a ceremony marking its grand re-opening, Bill Doyle, President and CEO of PotashCorp, spoke about the importance of the venue to the community of Saskatoon.

“We all know that this is one of Saskatoon’s most important community-gathering places,” said Doyle. “It is a community gem, set against the natural beauty of the River and the backdrop of our most famous landmark, the Bessborough. It has been
the launch site for big events like the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay and has even earned national recognition as the best outdoor skating spot in Canada.”

PotashCorp’s gift is the single largest contribution to the project and will be used to complete an overhaul of the site that began several months ago. Upgrades to the venue include new lighting to enhance safety, new features to improve access for all visitors, and new permanent rest room facilities that will be open to the public year round. While the site is most commonly associated with winter activities, the venue is critical to the success of other events and festivals, like the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival and the Northern Saskatchewan Children’s Festival in June each year.

To recognize PotashCorp’s leadership gift, the venue has been officially re-named “PotashCorp Plaza.”

PotashCorp is committed to contributing 1% of its pre-tax earnings in communities where it operates and support local events and projects that bring people together, build community and improve quality of life for all.

“We know that our contribution – and the new facilities and amenities that come with it – will enhance this venue and the cherished outdoor skating experience for the people of Saskatoon,” said Doyle. “We’re confident that PotashCorp Plaza will be
a point of pride and community-gathering place for years to come.”

^ Looks like PotashCorp is trying to have their name pasted to every public facility in the city. If they were to contribute money to fix our roads, we could name those after them as well.
