This tower is sweet but please tell me that giant cross lit up in that one high rise is only like that right before Christmas I hope.

Both Sandridge Tower and Chase Tower do the Crosses on their buildings during the holiday season. It's not a big deal really. It's a tradition that the owners have done for years.

It obviously is to Photolitherland. He's thinking, "God, I hope they don't do that year round."

Or you could have the opposite which I consider worse, which are big politically correct Christmas signs put up by the city which have nothing to do with Christmas that say things like "Peace" (with a little peace sign), "Harmony" and "Joy". It sounds like Photolitherland should move here.

I still don't get how this building is going to be 850 feet tall. Isn't a 54 story office building (devoid of any architectural features) normally 700-750 feet tall?

Agreed. I just don't think it's a big deal for them to do that during the holiday season. They've been doing it for years so people are used to it. Not to mention, this is a bible-state city.

And the tower is only 50 floors actually.

Plus the floor heights are more than normal....especially on the lower floors. That's why it's so high for the number of floors.

It depends on the height from floor slab to underside slab of the floor above and any architectural features built on the upper portion of the structure. Relative to upper structure architectural features that provides additional height, the "Batman" building in Nashville, TN can be an example; 33-stories at 617 ft tall. Philadelphia's City Hall can be another example; 7-stories at 548 ft tall.

I was in OKC this past weekend. It is beginning to make a significant impact on the skyline already. There is an area of hills south of Newcastle where the Hwy 9 spur connects Norman to I-44. From there you can look north and see downtown which is about 20 miles to the north. Devon is clearly visible and will really stand out once it tops out, especially if lit up by LED lights.

It's odd that such a tall building would be built on such a small skyline. Right now the tallest building is 500 ft. and this would "conquer" the skyline.

Everyone is well aware of this. The common hope is that this tower encourages some further development of highrises, some that might "fill" in the difference in height between the Chase Tower at 500 ft. and the Devon at 850 ft.
