Upon a more careful observation of these pics, the glass on 1 WTC is very similar, if not exactly the same quality of 7 WTC, save for the difference in the spandrel glass. Which I see as a good thing. The glass on 7 WTC is very dynamic - bright and reflective from some angles, and completely transparent from others, while being both from many more.

Personally, I like the open space in the spandrel glass of 7 WTC more, as it more clearly delineates the floors, especially from a distance. But I'm not sure that visual trick would work as well on 1 WTC's angular, tapering sides. It might distract one from the overall form of the tower.

So after initially worrying about the quality of the glass when we saw the first few panels, I'm coming around to really digging it.

Just a question about the glass. I apologize if someone pointed that already out.

How many single windows will be used at the entire tower? And what is the weight of one window?

Agreed. 7WTC is a simple parallelogram, it needed distinction in its details and surface treatment. If the same dynamic curtain wall was applied to the already dynamic shape of 1WTC, the design would've came out too busy.

Now that the sixth floor of glass is up we can really see how the tower will shape up. Truly beautiful. I can't wait to see this tower in person.

Same here! I'm going to NYC for the first time in late fall 2011/early winter - I can't wait! I'm thinking it isn't topped off by then, it should be close!

STR's renderings are indeed incredible and I love looking at them too -- I hadn't noticed how the seams of the glass along the edge of the tower line up until the new closeups photos of the construction. In the totality of the facade maybe the seams don't look as awkward, but then again as Charles Eames said, “The details are not the details. They make the design.”
Everyone is entitled to there opinion, but I find 3 pages full of criticism about the same thing every other day rather tiring.

You can only make a sliver of glazing so small and be able to securely attach it to the building.
Biff gets it.

This tower was designed to withstand hurricane force winds while looking great doing it.

All the setbacks on 3 & 4 are deliberate attempts to form a relationship between the two buildings.

That's a little bit of a stretch, don't you think? Your're essentially just comparing two highly placed setbacks. You could easily do that for a whole lot of buildings, even just in nyc. I would say that the two buildings are very similar, but I wouldn't call it a deliberate relationship.

No, it was mentioned before by the architects. But this isn't the proper thread for that discussion.

It’s looking better and better by the day.

It’s funny to see the Verizon building essentially surrounded in that photo.

I don't know about my prediction of catching 7 WTC by the end of the month. Still possible, but we'll have to see.

I’ve always thought that building would be better grouped rather than standalone (as it recently has been). It’s just funny to see such an old building being surrounded by modern glass buildings; shows distinctively how times change.

Man... If they were to cancel the other buildings and rebuild 2 WTC to be a twin component to One WTC...

One World Trade Center is going to look spec-fricking-TACULAR!
