This will make the harbour look much more impressive and built up. It will be a great counterpoint to buildings on the Halifax side - it's tall enough to really stand out.

This development's also big enough to have things like a grocery store, which is in the plans, and I think it will make a big difference to the attractiveness of the whole downtown Dartmouth area.

Interesting. The stage 2 agreement says that during construction of phase 2, (The iconic tower), or when the number of residential units exceeds 300, the grade separated crossing (corkscrew overpass) has to be built. The mess is gonna spread and grow!!

That's awesome about the iconic tower and I think that actually lends to my comment that perhaps the delay in some of the residential projects in downtown is not necessary. It seems to me that if the iconic tower is half sold; there is a strong market for these units. Perhaps the other projects are just way over-priced for the market or didn't have good business plans?

Now, what about the other part of Dartmouth Cove at the bottom of Canal St.? That area could really use some refurbishing!!

This project is interesting in that it appears to be built directly over the water similar to the Purdy's Wharf complex. If it can achieve the same feel as the Purdy's Wharf complex then it will be a real eye-catcher for the Dartmouth side of the harbour. I am really excited to see how this project turns out.

The vacant and underused space at the end of Canal is owned by the Waterfront Development Corporation so hopefully once King's Wharf is built out something will happen with it too.

That's because it is. There are hundreds of 'pre-confederation waterlots' along the harbour or the arm. So when Fares bought this property - he also got a couple water lots as well, which as I understand it he's filling in (mostly).

Purdy's was the same situation. If you look at the GIS map from the City; I think most of those waterlots are mapped and shown.

I think the Waterfront corp has a lot of big plans; but the money situation will be an issue. Between the infill in Bedford, the Queens' Wharf proposal and the salter block, it might be sometime before we see something developed. Although you never know, if King's Wharf really starts to take off they might re-prioritize projects.

I have a feeling that King's Wharf is exactly the type of development to reboot the entire waterfront. Dartmouth as well as Halifax.

This will likely start moving upward at a much faster rate now that the parking levels are nearing completion (or that is my hope, it will be interesting to see the change on the Dartmouth skyline).

It seems normal for there to be more time spent on excavation and foundation building than the construction and cladding of the floors above. In other words, once the groundwork is done things accelerate considerably.

A request for those who take the great pictures. I was behind the Royal Bank building, and noted that the elevation of the parking lot gave a nice broad view of Kings Wharf.
