i say they put more of these arches around the city or something similar, the architectural style is very unique

One thing that is being reinforced in my architectural education at Ryerson is that reviving or copying traditional forms of architecture is never good and ultimately it looks hokey. I think these are a nice addition (even though they are in an odd place) b/c they are original but to recreate other structures based on neo-gothic architecture would most likely be a fail for the city and the artist involved. Perhaps modern interpretations would be an interesting idea?

The only organization I have seen anywhere that executes traditional architectural forms really well is the U of S b/c they modernize it further through adapting the windows etc. They almost are creating a neo neo-gothic style. But besides that it usually looks pretty Las Vegas, which for any city other then Las Vegas is really bad.

Curious to see that these arches, presumed to be City-owned and being erected on City property, are being constructed by tradesmen wearing no hardhats and no safety boots. Not wanting to start a debate on the need for PPE on all projects, regardless of scale, however, I would expect a COS project to be in compliance with OHS regs.

living near Mexico these past months, you see alot of arches and such facing off into the ocean 'framing' the water.
Makes for a cool picture.
Maybe next time.

Anybody hear anyword on the new sub division evergreen?, I have seen some housing companies signs up and lots for sale, as well as a couple sold, looks like they mayby starting very soon, possib ly in the early weeks of the new year, evergreen will be quite the subdivision I imagine

Just remembered to say, I drove by health sciences today and noticed a large mobile crane sitting there, I wonder if they are gearing up to get ready to take down one of those two tower cranes, seems early to me, or mayby they are using it for another purpose, but that would seem costly, also has any one heard anything about that 9 storey addtition to the capri, for affordable living project

I live right across the street from the new Health Science building and I can confirm that they are indeed taking down the southern most crane. I'll try to get pictures up today, but I saw a fellow taking pictures just now so let's hope he's an SSP member.

It's been nice watching construction from my window. Sadly the crane leaves. I guess this means windows should be going up soon.

Perfect! Once the city has a solid background of higher end development we can expect developers from other cities move in to build larger scale more affordable condos. As much as I advocate Saskatoon's lowrise skyline it would be nice to see some beautiful glass curtain walled 30 story condos pop up around the perimeter of downtown.

Thanks to the picture-posters! The South bridge is steaming along, that's for sure. And this is the first time I've seen those arches up close. They remind me of my old alma mater, the U of S; of some of the old entranceways to the buildings. The 'finished' side looks great, but then the 'backside' looks like they lopped off the rest of the building that was once attached to it. Why didn't they just make both sides beautiful? Oh well, to get this far probably took months of inner-circle meetings and luncheons down at the Sheraton, in cocktail bars or... what were we talking about? Ha!

I know this doesn't pertain directly to construction but it does have to do with community and celebration of the city landscape....I'm just wondering if anyone has ever heard of Unsilent Night? Here in Cambridge it has been going on for a few years now. Its an installation art event that incorporates the entire downtown of the city. Displays are put up, architecture is showcased, images/videos are projected on buildings and music fills the air. I missed it last year but plan on attending this year. I have only heard good things about it but i thought it would be something that Saskatoon could incorporate or adopt as a winter tradition to celebrate the season and the city itself. Thousands of people get involved and its something that could become a part of a festival tradition in the city. I have seen them installing things all week around town and it looks like it will be good.

Its just an idea. I know we have a great arts community in the city and I can imagine how great some of the bridges and buildings lit up would look throughout the downtown.
