Man, there is this crane and the one across the highway for 455 de la Carriere, and soon there will be 3 more in downtown Hull (30 victoria, 22 eddy, and Cartier-Wellington if it gets out of the gate). Gatineau's landscape will be dotted with cranes.

No sure about the tenant but I've read in the Gatineau forum that the building would be 10 stories high (is it a previous proposal just across the street from PVM that just got moved to the current construction site?). And they've jacked up further the crane yesterday.

Well, maybe another small step in order to improve St-Joseph Blvd which is in dire need for that. See the thread I've created in the Urban, sub-section on my description of St-Joseph.

Does anyone know what's going on with that parking lot bordered by Queen, Kent and Albert? It's the piece across from Holt Renfrew. I think it's owned by Brookfield. That's a very nice piece of land. I'm hoping it won't end up as another government office building. May make a good place for retail since it's across from Holt Renfrew, Fairweather and LCBO.

I was there yesterday and that crane seems way too high for a 10 storey building! I am hoping it will be taller, closer to 15 or so. I found out from someone in the area that the owner of the new building is the same owner who owns the building in front - the Place Vincent Massey. Supposedly its the dude who owns St-Hubert restaurants, though don't quote me on that!

Apparently it might be but funny there has been very little talk about it in the Gatineau media. Whereas the other three (Eddy, Victoria, De La Carriere) have gotten tons of coverage.

It still must be very exciting with everything thats going on.

Progress is good but I think I (and most Gatinois) won't really get excited until we have something even close to a reasonably lively downtown.

I am not asking for the moon like Montreal or Quebec City or the Byward Market even - maybe something like downtown Kingston, Ontario (which has 100,000 fewer people than we do).

It is owned by Brookfield. The lot was proposed to be Place de Ville Phase III, with three 19-storey commercial buildings (likely all for gov't offices). They've stopped calling it PdeV3, but they're still proposing three 19-storey commercial buildings for the site. However, I would expect the 19-storey "Place de Ville Tower D" which is proposed to replace the 4-storey Podium Building at Place de Ville Phase 2 (where the movie theater used to be) will be built before the Queen-Kent-Albert lot is developed. But that's just conjecture on my part.

You can see that crane from Allumettières/ St Raymond and from there, it looks almost as high as PVM!

This one's not happening, at least not in that form. The City changed the zoning for that particular parcel to max. 6stories. Developer cancelled plans to build.

This summer and fall in the Byward Market, the portion of
William street between York and Clarence was closed to vehicular traffic, for the pilot project/study of making it a small pedestrian-only area. They said they were going to study the effects on traffic, and that construction on the permanent changes could begin this fall.

Traffic didn't seem to be moving any worse in the Market from what I saw, but
I've noticed that the street is now re-opened to cars, and there are no signs of construction.

Does anyone know what's going on there?

At the Mid-Centretown Community Design Plan 2nd public meeting, the Museum of Nature presented a proposal, still in early stages, to eliminate the cut-through that Metcalfe does on the east side of the museum, thereby enabling the Museum to have a West Lawn and an East Lawn, with 180 units of underground parking under each. It's a nice looking proposal and represents substantial greenspace in an area that doesn't have a lot of large park spaces.

So, how do we get from the south side to the north side of Metcalfe? Make a detour to Elgin and back on McLeod?

That's the gist of it. This would be in conjunction with making Metcalfe a two-way street.
