Brew Pub closes but owner vows to reopen

The Montgomery Brewing Company -- better known as the Brew Pub -- a pioneer nighttime destination during downtown Montgomery's rebirth, has closed, but General Manager Chris Ellis vowed Monday that it will reopen with a new atmosphere.

For 15 years the Brew Pub had served up beers, bands and burgers, but while business boomed downtown in the Alley, the entertainment area full of bars and restaurants that opened during the past few years, it waned at the Brew Pub.

Ellis doesn't believe that's a coincidence. [...]

Airport upgrades almost ready

Improvements to the parking lot at Montgomery Regional Airport are being completed one at a time, just in time for the holiday rush.

In recent weeks, the airport has opened its cell phone waiting lane and new exit stations for the parking lot. The cell phone lane is an area for drivers to wait for arriving flights before picking up passengers.

Covered walkways to protect passengers during wet weather have been in place a little longer.

A taxi waiting area is almost complete, and all rental cars are parked in the same basic area.

A quarter century has passed since the curtains opened for the first show at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery. As the theater celebrates its "Silver Season," which began earlier this fall, Geoffrey Sherman, the theater's producing artistic director, wonders if the wonder of ASF will ever spread throughout its own community.

One way around that is to only quote the lines from the article that you are most interested in regarding the subject you're interested in. It's not necessary to post an entire article. You can post a few lines, maybe a paragraph, but not the whole article.

And keeping in mind that only a few lines can be replicated for an article even if a few quotes are desired.

There is also the option of paraphrasing the article to report the gist of the content.

To the untrained, pessimistic eye, this is just an old, dirty building that offers the myriad problems associated with old, dirty buildings. But to Montgomery officials, this structure built in 1920 is expected to become the marquee building among the now city-owned properties along lower Dexter Avenue, and they hope that developers will see the same potential in the former department store.

"Most developers love a green field," said Jeff Downes, deputy mayor and interim director of the planning department. "But to be able to do this (project) takes a passion for redevelopment and adaptive reuse of existing structures."

The redevelopment of the area, which started to see construction in the 1820s, presents unique challenges -- for instance, the current layout would not satisfy today's laws regarding emergency access -- but Downes said the opportunity also offers "a certain allure that you can't find when you create an outdoor mall."

Probably due to the "Posting Police" that struck while I was away on vacation. Since then I have seen article postings on other forums that they did not single out like the ones they did here. Too weird... and too restrictive in my opinion, but I will follow their guidelines.

Everyone needs attention sometimes, I guess it was just the moderators turn?

I wish the city and ASU could have come to terms on Crampton Bowl, but still, I hope it works out.
