I think the concrete looks fine and I'm speaking as someone who hasn't heard of the project prior to a couple days ago. It's a nice departure from the usual green glass or whatever some earlier posters would describe as the "higher standard" vancouverites have come to expect. It's different and it stands out, in a good way. And from any other angle it looks quite a bit more modern than in the photo above.

I think the renders of this one look better than the final product, but it's still an interesting building.

Reminds me of some spaceship looking condo towers built in Calgary during the 70's

All the renderings I've seen of this building led me to believe there would be a hell of a lot more glass, no indication of all the concrete. But that's pretty typical - renderings almost always look way cooler than the final product. Anyways, it is a nice addition for Vancouver.

yeah I agree i thought the curved would be all glass and not concrete

oh well better than nothing but not that impressed with it

Yeah, the marketig materials never showed a render of the south side - just a massing outline.

The marketing material at http://www.jamesonfoster.com clearly shows glass on the 'organic' plans on the exterior walls where there is exposed concrete in the final built version. So, there was obviously an intention to do it all glass at some point, but later changed.

Probably a design change that Bosa insisted on in order to help meet the tight 'extended' timelines to ensure the enforcement of the original contracts.

It would have been spandrel glass, but I guess it fell victim to "The Cheapening".

The interior always showed the wall as solid concrete. It is only the exterior cladding that was changed during construction.

I dunno, that was just my first impression. The shiny bits and tubular massing of the Lloyds building mixed with hints of the sort of highbrow brutalism you'd see with 60s public buildings in Britain. To me, it doesn't look American, doesn't look Japanese, sort of looks Canadian, but mostly it looks British.

If you look closely at the renders posted by itinerant you'll see that despite the concrete wall, there is glass on the exterior (i.e. spandrel (non-vision) glass). i.e on the overhead view of the organic suite, look at the exterior wall of the unit to the left - it shows glass panelling.

Great shots.

I wouldn't mind a condo tower being built with all 4 sides looking like Jameson House's east facade (the fact that the windows do not go to the floor is quite a departure for a curtain wall/wondow wall in Vancouver, but really adds character)
