I refuse to believe they're leaving the concrete raw. It makes no sense. Wouldn't they at least score some horizontal lines onto the concrete to line up with the mullions and balcony railing height? Or maybe score a lot more lines, like with the cores at West Pender Place... anything to take away from the 1960's brutalism...

I do like concrete, however, I also didn't expect it to stay raw like that. I thought they would acid-etch it like those fancy sidewalks, or at least paint it. Anyway it's not really brutalism, the face is smooth, not showing the casings etc.

I agree with you that a more textured, artistic-oriented surface may be desirable, but I think the preceding post by Red Paladin makes an equally good obseravtion about ot the smoothness of the concrete. At least, this is not Brutalist architecture, either Stalinesque or 1960s

I agree totally ... but qualify that in saying "while under construction." When it's operational, and the evening lights are on, there will still be some ultimate shots to be had.

Stitch some of those logos and colours on there... think it'd look pretty good, though i'm not disturbed by bare concrete either.

I will throw it out there to say that this building is an eye sore in its current state. The real deal is quite the contrast from its initial rendering.

Imagine if you paid millions of dollars for a suite with one of the balconies in the three columns on the left and your view was 75% awesomeness and 25% your neighbor’s round concrete wall!

I imagine you wouldnt spend too much time looking at the concrete wall...

I think this is quite a nice project, but everyone is entitled to their opinoin and I can see why the concrete would rub some people the wrong way. I find it contrasts quite nicely with the glass.

I think we disussed earlier in the thread that the walls are structural - so the whole issue could have been avoided by not cantilevering out the upper floors, and instead, plowing columns through the heritage building (or just retaining the facade, like the other heritage building).

Or that 25% could have been the view from their living room into Your bedroom.

Shortly after they moved into the West End, I had to tell a friend (in the most polite way possible) that they needed thicker bedroom curtains.
