Great news on Broadway... Christie's is now open! It's over on the side of the building, not facing Broadway so it might not be obvious to those driving by. Rumour has it that the suite in front of Christie's, facing Broadway, is going to be some kind of cupcake place

Very cool. So is Christie's moving from it's original location? Or is this a second location?
Not sure how well a 3rd(?) cupcake bakery will do. We'll see I guess. This would be the most ideal location for one with all the foot traffic.

I noticed there is a new sculpture at the Farmers Market (on 19th and B). Nothing too extraordinary, but it's colourful. I like it.

If we are interested?! Is that even a question, of course we are! I've often thought of designing a sculpture for the city since they always have calls for them but I'm just not sure how I would make it. I could draw it, spec materials and draft it but beyond that I could not do much! Does anyone know how people usually go about doing that? Is it purely an artist designing and building their own sculpture and donating it?

This is a 2nd location. Christie's on 33rd is staying put.

I def recommend Saskatoon as a place to move to! I grew up there, have lived in Calgary and visited the other major cities in western Canada. Since we are all talking about river landing - any idea what is happening with the Rivergreen Ecovillage? I liked the preliminary plans for this project a lot and it seems that it could really help to kickstart Phase Two of River Landing.

I'm definitely interested! I've been anxiously awaiting some news about what the new hospital will look like. The health sciences are really undergoing a renaissance with the new D and E wings on the health science building and the soon to be complete renovations/addition to the vet college. Exciting times

I would love to see some sort of tower! It would be great to have an addition to the university skyline... something more interesting than the arts tower!

Hah alright. I'll see what I can do.

Not sure if it's been posted in here, but the architecture firm working on the CHS is Zimmer Gunsul Frasca. It's an American firm, although I understand they have a Canadian office as well. They designed the Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland and the Denver Children's Hospital.

Part of the design team from Sask will be touring those two hospitals, as well as Seattle's Children's Hospital.

I spoke too soon about the tower or circular design, as nothing has really been designed yet, so these are just ideas being thrown around.
However, I think I can say with confidence that we won't be disappointed in the final design. I.e. If it is a tower, it shouldn't be just a rectangular box (A sort of staggered/interlocking [I don't know what the actual terms are and I can't explain it, so use your imagination at this point. haha] design is being looked at currently).

Also, the exact location of the hospital will be where the oldest RUH parking lot currently is, which I believe the South-West one. New parking will be constructed, obviously.

I am also quite interested in contributing designs for public art here in Saskatoon. Do they post these calls on Saskatoon.ca? I have been here for 2 years and have never heard of such thing.

Devon, I think what you'll want is the Placemaker Public Art Program, which the City's Urban Design section oversees.

I would definately love to hear more on the childrens hospital, and you know if they did want to design some sort of a tower, i wouldnt mind that either, would definately be a good addition to the university and the riverbank, let us know asap when you hear anything about this project dsim249, thanks alot cheers

Info on any projects big or small be sure to post them. That goes for all the lurkers out there as well, don't be afraid to sign up and spread a few rumors.

Speaking of rumors I recently heard from a source that another grocery store may be going into the old Uptown Market location at the 2nd Ave lofts. Could it be true

I hope City Park and North Park residents fight this tooth and nail. What a horrible in-fill scenario. I can just see each morning and evening rush-hour over 150 vehicles trying to get in and out of a residential neighbourhood that already has traffic flow problems.

Affinity should realize that we have a downtown for this and if they can't cough up the price for parking spaces look to the North End where there is plenty of land for parking.

This land parcel has so much potential for unique in-fill developments such as townhouses, and other medium and low density residential development that it would be a shame to see it wasted by an office building and massive parking lot. I hope the City Coucil squashes this development ASAP and doesn't approve the zoning change.
