Its no big deal people say what they say , i would of added more to the list , such as the new sixty million new business park , maybe a new stadium if thats not built who knows what could go up there but it could change reginas skyline in a big way, that is one of the last major lands to be redeveloped in a major canadian city , the only reason there is some backlash is that they are upset that all this is happening in Regina , just like dsim249 has said why should we not feel good.

Which building? Hill Tower III (Mosaic) is under construction http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=182248
But we are not sure if Capital Pointe will be taller. They are currently doing pre-demo on that building site

I went. The event was really well run, imo, and had a turn out of between 30 and 40 people. Professor Brennan was a great speaker and got the audience participating quite well. If this is indicative the quality of these sessions I recommend them highly to anyone that is interested in the topic of the week.

The gist of the presentation by Dr. Brennan was a short overview of Regina's applicable history since WWII, then a short description of each of the "8 Big Moves" of Regina's Downtown Neighbourhood Plan. For each "Big Move" he asked the audience "Will this work?" and opened the floor to comments.

Unfortunately the time was too short to really dig into the subject matter. More than a few times there were still hands in the air wanting to add to the discussion when the Dr. Brennan had to move on to the next topic.

I noticed about a dozen people from the City Adminstration in attendance. I think that everyone missed an opportunity by not arranging for a Q&A with City Staff after Dr. Brennan's talk.

For the first time in its history, the Saskatchewan Financial Services Commission (SFSC) will hear legal arguments for and against the 'poison pill' at a special hearing at the RCMP Heritage Centre.

In an application filed with commission Oct. 22, BHP Billiton is seeking a "cease trade order''

I am so happy that the Regina Fire Department got their new hall done. I know atleast one fireman who was just over the moon to see it done. Can't wait to go and see it for myself this weekend. Now we gotta get those 6 new trucks in and it will be much better.

For your imformation there is so much potash in the regina area it is unbelievable this is also a sask thread as Regina and Saskatoon are major players on this board, your just upset thats all. potash has lots to do with the regina and saskatoon areas it fuels the cities economies

DEWDNEY FIRE HALL

REGINA — The Regina Fire and Protective Services Department began operations out of the new, state-of-the-art No. 4 Fire Hall at 3855 Dewdney Ave. on Monday.

"We're really excited about how we worked with (the city's) facilities and traffic departments," said Assistant Chief Roland Gemmell. "One of the best things that we have done by the actual location of this station is it has improved our response both east and west of here.

"To the east, we have the core North Central and it's where we have our largest volume of calls. Our other challenge to the west was Dieppe. We can now improve our response time out there because we are on a major route."

The old No. 4 hall at Pasqua Street and 5th Avenue was a 53-year-old facility. The brand-new replacement, which has been in the works for five years, is welcomed by firefighters, Gemmell said.

"We had a design committee, made up of firefighters, right at the very start of the process," said Paul Viala, fire services accreditation manager. "They made probably 60 recommendations. Most of it was incorporated into the design."

Features of the new facility include a special public education and training space, from which a public education officer will work two days a week.

There also are many environmentally friendly aspects to the new fire hall.

"The station's double the size of the old one and it will actually use less energy," Viala said, noting it is expected to easily meet Leadership in Energy and Environment Design Silver standards.

Solar water heating will accommodate 100 per cent of hot water needs in summer and 50 per cent in winter, supplemented by a backup system.

Most rooms have occupancy sensors so lights come on when someone comes in and go off when the person departs.

"Green" building products were used and cleaning and other activities have to be done using only green products. The landscaping is mostly "zero-scaping" with Prairie grass that doesn't need to be watered replacing green grass.

Other 21st-century features are part of the new fire hall. Considering new needs for computers for training and other activities, the hall is fully equipped with wireless Internet, Gemmell said.

"This station is the only station that has individual dorm rooms and individual washrooms and shower rooms," Viala said.

The lot is large and planned out so when fire trucks are coming in and out of the station, they can make turns without having to interrupt street traffic.

Extra bay spaces means the hall can be flexible in having additional vehicles or vehicles with different types of capabilities at the ready if there is a large event planned in the area, for example.

An official public opening of the new fire hall is planned for the spring.

Actually, news about BHP is very relevant in this thread. If BHP buys out Potash Corp, the implications for Regina based Mosaic Potash are far reaching. Concerns about BHP over producing and driving down the price of Potash could negatively affect Mosaic and that would have a negative effect on Regina's local economy. Yes, this thread is concerned with Regina construction, however, news outside of the city does affect what goes on here too.
