Quite, I can feel the excitement in the air. And a little bit of fear.

I'm not sure Calgary is a different place, he or somebody like him probably could have been elected twenty years ago.

Don't buy the hype, even in the 1950's Calgary was never Selma.

Hmmm....well Joe Connelly managed to get 1% of the vote. More than Oscar at least.

Calgary should be very proud of itself right now! I am totally shocked how the momentum of the last 3 hours completely changed this whole election!! I think he'll be a great mayor and leader.

Yep. Next time I hear someone label Calgary as a redneck city, I'll show them a picture of our mayor.

I'm a proud Calgarian right now. This is unbelievable. Calgary has moved to another level.

Congrats for Naheed, I'm so happy he won. It also looks like Gian-Carlo Carra could take ward 9, So I hope he wins there too!

I stand corrected - looks like Nenshi is poised to hit over 20,000 lead on McIvor. Exit stage left please blinky...

Anyone know if there are any 24 hour Wal-Marts in the city? I need to pick up some bolts of black fabric for the wife's burqa, so that she's allowed outside tomorrow.

Also, I hope extra cabs are running, because I'm not sure how she's going to get to the market now that she can no longer drive. Maybe I should reserve one now?

(Just lining up the jokes to throw at a few select redneck cow-orkers tomorrow)

I think Hard Poo Man* has it for Ward 6.

*I saw a Richard Pootmans sign painted with some strategically placed white paint. I later found out it was a few of my friends.

Now DCU has to work with a mayor she didn't endorse. Oops!

I'm sure Naheed will be forgiving and gracious, but still goes to show, don't do what DCU did or you might get egg on your face.

He just hit over 20,000 lead. Congrats Nenshi, I am off to bed. I have to show up tomorrow at the big blue building - or should I say the big purple building now.

Congratulations, Nenshi! I think the political future is bright!

I'll keep being involved though. Still gonna offer my opinion on everything he does.

Please, please don't forget to tell them they should start looking for daycare for their daughters now as with the upcoming cutbacks girls will no longer be in school!

Just had to pull out the earliest posts here. 8:30pm, Higgins in the lead. By 9:45 or so, Nenshi had it, and never looked back.

This race really was no contest, once we got past the first 10000 ballots or so.

No worries, as the wives will be able to stay home to take care of the kids, not being allowed to work and all. Because we all have to be polygamous now, I think.
