Not at all. Firstly, because you have no idea who "my guy" is (I see you entirely refuse to actually read what people post here). Secondly, because I'm not a petty asshat who bases moral values on WHO does something as opposed to WHAT that something is. The action is what's wrong, not the person - that may be a foreign concept to you so I may have to repeat this one a few more times tonight.

I know you joke but... if McIver does not win, I assume that means he's out of civic politics for 3 years? ie: he isn't also trying to keep his alderman's seat as a "backup plan" (is that even allowed)?

I wouldn't mind if the two who lose stick around somewhat to be a bit of an official opposition. Although I think Barb isn't necessarily qualified at the moment, 3 yrs is a lot of time to learn.

Seriously? Campaign donations can be used by candidates for their own personal spending?

Even if that's legal - that's just a tad unethical, if you ask me. Do all candidates do this? Go to Hawaii after an election? Shit, I think I'm going to run for mayor next time!

A bit of almost a shadow-council could be interesting. Particular if it was set up by some neutral group and the 2nd place candidates of each race were invited.

As of 2007 it was legal and I don't think it has changed.

I'd wager he'd be out of civic politics for good. I just cannot see him coming back as an Alderman in three years. Ward 12 is bound to have an ideological ally holding the seat and running elsewhere just does not seem that viable. The only way I could see him going municipal again would be if he takes another run at mayor. For that to happen the mayor, Nenshi or Higgins, would have to really bomb.

If he is not Mayor tomorrow I see a jump to provincial or federal politics. The Wildrose Alliance Party would probably recruit him for the next provincial election in a heartbeat.

I could actually vote for him as a candidate for the WRP.. I don't mind him as a voice in government, I would just prefer he not be the leader.

It would be pretty easy for him to jump to any higher level of government when there isn't an incumbent, or for an insurgent party like the Wildrose. I don't know what his family situation is like, but if his kids (if he has kids?) are done high school, it would certainly be a good adventure for him.

Side note, Mr. McIver and some aldermanic candidates are taking liberties with how close their signs get to polling stations on election day. No tape measure but his signs were under 50 meters from the school.... but the polling station (gym) was on the other side of the school, more then 50 meters.... does that count?

Wildrose would make the most sense to me. I do not think any Calgary area Conservatives are retiring and McIver just does not have the kind of national stature to have the party knock an incumbent out. As for the PCs, a lot of his contacts are working to kick them out so it would be a pretty big news if they could lure him as a Calgary deputy. I'd say bigger news than is apt to occur.
