OMP looks otherworldly and just stunning. And it's amazing how the Willis Tower can make everything else look so small...

What is this "Willis Tower" thing of which you speak?

I think if there is one place where one can call the "Willis" Tower it's rightful name - the Sears Tower - it should be here. No more Willis Tower nonsense. I'll give it 5 years before they sell the naming rights to the next highest bidder anyway.

Well everyone here calls the Amoco (or if you ask older Chicagoans, the Standard Oil) Building the Aon Tower. We'll just have to get used to it.

The tall black building formerly known as Sears Tower is closer to the camera than the other 3 Chicago supertalls, wich makes it look even bigger. The biggest mass of 300+ meter building's in the country.

Great photos!!

The Standard Oil Building never had the fame of the Sears Tower.

^^^ Exactly, most people outside of Chicagoland (and many within) are completely unaware that Big Stan exists even though its taller than every building in the US outside of Chicago and New York City...

PS, not to get all city v city, but does it bother anyone else that NYC is going to pull a Petronas on us again and claim the "tallest building in the USA" title with another giant toothpick? I mean the roof of 1 WTC is going to be like 1333' which is about 100' less than Sears. They are only getting to the lame height of 1776 because compensating for something and slapping a huge phallic symbol on the roof.

Just dreaming about the day what the current gap from Sears (Willis) to OMP will look like in 20 years. The current view form Oak Park is but in the future it will be ^2

And this is only starting now. Over the next couple years, NYers will only get louder and more chest-thumpier about it. They are incapable of handling 2nd place. The original moniker "windy" will have to apply to them. Oops, we're supposed to do this in a different forum.

No, it doesn't bother me. We're gonna build an even bigger, more obvious phallic symbol once Kelleher finds that extra $billion...

^ Oddly enough, one of the big business stories of the past day was about Ireland, including Anglo-Irish Bank, being in very dire financial straits. I kind of think Kelleher is done for the next couple years, unless everything is rescued by some sheik or dude who launched a social network.

This site was never intended to have anything more substantial than a surface lot. Its an interim use, the developer intends to come before the city at some point in the near future with a high-rise proposal. That was of course before the economy bottomed out, so we may be stuck with the surface lot for a while.

Thanks for clarifying. Better a high-rise someday than a parking garage now.^
