^ Nice one.

Somehow I see that image and can't help thinking it's vintage 1952 or something. Airbrush Park Tower out of it and you're kinda there.

Looks like they're punching in windows at the base of the Apparel Center. Normally I'd consider that a good thing but this is the Apparel Center after all.

Hopefully someone realized it was the most hideous abortion of a building ever conceived and stopped it's construction.

So it has been 7 months since The Catalyst condo tower announced that it has financing. If you recall, it is the condo tower in the Near West side designed by Lagrange. So far no signs of any activity.

I'm guessing that announcement was a bunch of bull?

^ In a similar vein, what is up with the Washington/Wells (ne corner) rehab? Didn't someone say in the last month that the adjacent empty lot was being prepped for construction of a parking garage? And were there any renders of this?

Just thought I'd post a couple views from my apartment I've gotten off the camera recently. It really shows how Near North has grown vertically in the past few years. Sorry they are big!

Bonus, the other direction. I think there's some height potential on Division St.

I dunno. A parking garage is progress, though. First a one-story taxpayer, then a parking garage, then a soaring tower.

I can quite pin down my feelings on 200. Sometimes I think its decent filler, and then other times I am underwhelmed.

I'm not sure I feel about it either, but I'm hoping it will bring life to the area after business hours.

Whats wrong with 200? I think its a perfectly fine building. Its nothing groundbreaking, but its got decent massing, varied textures, fairly unique glass. Sure its not 225 W Washington, but not every building can have a massive cantilever over a landmarked building like 225 and 600 n Fairbanks. From an urban planning perspective whats not to love? Its a couple hundred new units right in the middle of the look right next to transit that will certainly help build the perception of the loop as a place to live, not just a place to work.

I think we can all agree that this is leagues above the — that goes up elsewhere in the city.

225 cantilevers over itself... it does not go over the lot line. This was a strategy by SCB to pull away from the landmarked Washington Block rather than to diminish its importance by dwarfing it with a huge, sheer blank party wall.

200 West Lake is fine. It's in a relatively quiet part of the loop, sandwiched between the L tracks on two sides and tall buildings on the other two. Its overall composition is really not important. All that matters is the pedestrian experience of the building at ground level, the experience of the interior spaces, and the experience of passengers on the L.

^I read somewhere the site was cleared for a parking garage next to 188 W Randolph. Plans have obviously been simplified. Check out this SSC post #5 at: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=874568 ^

Incredible views man. I'm super jealous. The views are good in uptown, but not THAT good.
