thats disappointing about the shindico thing.

I thought they wanted to build downtown?

whatever, maybe something better will come from it.

For instance, sure it sucks today that we won't get a new 5-6 story office tower downtown, but now it might mean in the future we'll get a larger 15-16 story office tower instead.

Exactly. People sitting on vacant lots in downtown Winnipeg aren't going to sell (or develop the property) for a dinky little 5 storey building, they want a 20+ storey building and sell the property for much more money.

Until that happens they will continue to collect parking revenues instead.

I guess you would rather see Judy wash the dishes on her knees making money for her Union friends?

Don't forget, every politician is beholden to somebody!

they had 5 other proposals....all of them very willing to develop...all of them downtown.....all of them the catalyst to something even bigger.

As not-so-great as Katz is right now, Judy would be 100x worse. I've read parts of her platform, and she is as anti-progression, lack-of-vision, lackluster as she is clueless on how to run a city. Add to the fact that is is pro-NDP (socialist), and that makes her that much worse.

Oh fuck, I've contributed to the OT on this thread. Great!

Hey guys, let's take all this civic talk to the civic thread, please and thanks.

Sorry mods, as I was part of this, but can we please take all civic comments and place them into the civic thread? Thanks!

Well, I'm betting that there were many residents that were very angry and probably whined a lot, but I'm not concerned anymore, as I hear this project will be going through regardless, and that is good news IMO.

Where did you hear about this project going through regardless? As far as I know, they haven't even submitted a formal application to the city yet, the city hasn't held any public consultation/hearings, etc... This is far from being approved is it not?

I expressed concerns a few weeks back about NIMBY's destroying yet another "corner turning" project in this city, and a certain architect on this site who is apparently in the know assured me that all the t's have been crossed and all the i's dotted, and that this project "won't die".

I think downtown Winnipeg is ever so slowly moving in the right direction.

My family is in a position where we would like to buy a small heritage building downtown or elsewhere in the inner city for a family business, but they're getting harder to come by.

Conversely, it was only fifteen years ago that there were whole city blocks (think the downtown Red River campus) that were empty.

Hang in there everyone.
