I think plaza and parks are vastly different, but either way it's not a huge deal. It's not like the building will have retail or has a need to truly interact the pedestrian.

For those who haven't noticed, Comrade (who used to post here) just posted a Sugarhouse photo thread in the photo forum:

I really am looking forward to see the federal courthouse to start. I wonder what's taking them sooooo long.

Soccer complex opponents ask court to stop the project

Jeff Salt, of the Jordan River Restoration Network, said the motion was filed Friday in Salt Lake's 3rd District Court. The filing asks the court to halt any further meetings and zoning changes — "anything that would advance the project" — until a records request has been fulfilled.

"This is full on war now," said Salt. "They don't want us to use those records in any open meetings."

I am not a fan of Salt. A few dissenters harassing the progress of the many. Boo!

Target progress

Here's a photo of the new Target store on 300 West. It's scheduled to open in just under 2 months on October 10th. It appears as though the structure is complete. They just need to pave the parking lot.

I've got this:

That's months ago. A new one from there would be great now that cladding is pretty much done on Regent and Prom.

I'm so sick of these damn environmental tree huggers coming in and saying "Can't built here, can't built there." Well where the hell do you hippies want us to build it then? I might have a better understanding of this if the development was a parking lot with a big box retail, but it's a freaking Soccer complex. It's green space.

Projects tell us how you really feel. There is no need to dance around the issue.

I agree that folks with very narrow interests can do a lot to slow the progress of communities. I get frustrated with people who care so much about a single issue that they say "to hell" with everyone's wants and interests. While I appreciate the advocacy Mr. Salt provides for a horribly neglected river, it isn't the only interest in the county. Sometimes when needs and values conflict you make tough choices that can negatively impact things like river quality.

Salt Lake to host 2011 U.S. Travel Association seminar

SALT LAKE CITY — Next year at about this time, Salt Lake City will be hosting the U.S. Travel Association's Educational Seminar for Tourism Organizations.

The seminar is expected to draw 400 tourism destination professionals to The Grand America Hotel from Aug. 28-30, 2011.

"This is a prestigious event, and we are excited to host tourism leaders from all over the country and state to discuss best practices in destination marketing," said Leigh von der Esch, managing director of the Utah Office of Tourism, which is an agency of the Governor's Office of Economic Development.

The selection of Salt Lake City was announced Friday.

"We are excited to showcase Salt Lake City's accessibility and scenic beauty to these tourism professionals who will come to Utah for work sessions, meetings and an opportunity to see some of our outstanding activities and attractions," said Pat Holmes, vice president of partner development for the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The two agencies worked together to submit the winning bid to the U.S. Travel Association.

Also on Friday, von der Esch was re-elected to the board of the National Council of State Tourism Directors.

Ok, This really shouldn't be a tough choice, however Mr. Salt feels he needs to waste everybody's time by turning this into an issue. Having open green space that everybody can enjoy isn't going to hurt the area.

Historic Salt Lake building back on auction block

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...ion-block.html

SALT LAKE CITY — The 119-year-old Odd Fellows Hall in downtown Salt Lake City is back on the auction block after an earlier sale failed to draw the minimum bid.

The federal government, which owns the building, started another online auction on Aug. 4, this time with a suggested minimum bid of $500,000.

A bid of $510,000 was submitted Wednesday, narrowly topping an earlier bid at the suggested minimum...

I was up at the U taking pictures and on the way home I drove down North Temple and noticed that the City Creek Inn which stood next to Crown Burger has now been torn down.

Hmmm, that's interesting. Anybody remember what the plans are for that plot? So T-Mac, does this mean we're going to get some cool pics of all the construction going on up at the U of U?

Wow, I love this pic Tony
