There is going to be an overpass at Sarcee, actually two seperate bridges, one for 17th Ave and the other for the LRT. WestLRT website has a lot of info.

the elevated guideway erection has started today. there was quite the flurry of media for the launch.

you can get a pretty good view from the shoulder of the WB Bow - NB 14th Street offramp

historic day for Calgary - at least in my books.

I thought I saw a piece being held by the crane yesterday around 4pm when I drove by on Bow trail eastbound.

I'll have to go by and get a look at this as it starts to come together.

yeah they were testing the winches yesterday. cool stuff. the two end pieces for each span are shaped differently and have the conduits for post-tensioning cables, clearly seen on photo below.

Just passed the launching truss. It has a whole bunch of guideway sections being lifted now, using half of the length of the truss.

So once a section is done, does that thing "walk" so to speak to the next pilon? One side stays as is and weight balances/anchors the whole thing while the other advances forward mechanically and once it reaches the next pier, gets anchored allowing the trailing side to be advanced.? (That was a sort of a statement-question)

^Yeah its an interesting video, but it doesnt really show how the truss itself advances. It shows only how, when they had to move it across the gap to the other side, they used that massive floating crane.

I'm trying to get a somewhat detailed understanding of how it moves from pier to pier.

I doubt the massive floating crane could reach the truss from the Bow River.

Yeah, same here. I understand the concept but would like to see a video/gif that focuses on that single process of moving the truss from Pier A and B to B and C.

Went up on top of Sunalta Station today. Rebar crews have got about half the steel and post tensioning ducts in place, a lot going on up there for sure.

Also, the first span of elevated guideway is almost fully assembled, it's really starting to take shape.

I have been trying to do some research on launching gantries and launching truss'. Additionally, just trying to find some videos that can bolster our understanding of how the launching system works.

The launching gantry used in Calgary is made by DEAL http://www.deal.it/launching.htm

Here is a time lapse video that might give you a better idea of how the launcher "walks" to the next pier. It is not the same system as in Calgary but it should help.
