There were several "high end" stores in Canada - such as First Canadian Place in TO and the Oakridge one you mention. When Woodward's went bust, I suspect that the franchise(?) rights reverted back to te parent company in the US.
Of course, this was all well before the shift downmarket to the trendy teen and young adult market. Back then, the stores has the look and feel of a Polo by Ralph Lauren store (not the Polo country edition) - all dark woods, dark greens and leather, and carried high end gadgets and games like the Sharper Image does.

it had the classic rhino thing going on i remember they sold leather rhinos in store for $200 or something
it was a much older demographic back than and very preppy
Woodwards owned them and they were only in Vancouver, Edmonton and maybe Calgary
people in their teens didn't shop their - it was basically a high end sports/safari type place - you could buy fishing rods and sporting goods - clothes were just part of the mix - now its nothing but clothes aimed at 18 year olds
they weren't really a wanted label back in the day
does anybody remember banana republic in the 80's? so completely different too - entirely different concept from what it used to be
