I wonder if the fact that Nenshi is well known to the Calgary media will help his campaign? So far he is the most articulate and well composed interviewee (sp?) that I've seen or heard.

I caught his interview on QR77 this afternoon, very well spoken and actually talked about what he WOULD do. Even saying he wasn't going to be just throwing out soundbites and little media quotes, but that he would have substance in what he was saying.

I was impressed, but still want to hear more and from others as this race goes forward.

Please! The level of debate seriously has to increase in this city. Soundbites and slogans seem to be the highest level of debate we experience in this city (forums and drunken discussions aside). The Sun doesn't do much to help that.

I think many people misunderestimate the sun - the sheer amount of civic coverage they pump out puts them at or above the Herald in overall coverage.

Oh yeah, overall coverage they do is great. They get on every issue, but the level of debate is pretty low. Rick Bell is horrendous. He is the Sun's Mark Steyn. I do find Michael Platt pretty good though- not my favorite, but he is pretty reasonable.

I would not make that comparison. Steyn is, along with his other faults, a pompous ass. Bell, on the other hand, seems to take pride in writing like how drunk people talk and it has been getting worse for years.

The Herald really has not been the same paper since the strike.

Fair enough. Not saying Steyn and Bell are the same style of writing, just the same level of overall badness. Steyn thinks Muslims are taking over the world and Fascism is a serious threat to Europe. Bell just rambles on and on about nothing of significance. So in short, Steyn is delusional, Bell is trivial.

A local MP going door to door in my parent's riding came by the other day and I happened to answer the door. He introduced himself and asked me if I had any questions or concerns. I took a moment to think, then told him I was a proponent of sustainable development and generally anti-Rick McIver. "So," I said, "what side of the fence are you on?"

"I'm running with Rick and Jason Kenney."

The silence that followed was horribly awkward. I told him I'd pass along the pamphlet he gave me and shut the door.
