Anyway, this building at the corner of Davie and Seymour looks like it's going to be demolished really soon for the park expansion:

Any idea what they will do with the remains of the CPR tunnel under there that was abandoned when SkyTrain was built under Dunsmuir?

Probably break it apart & haul it away - at least the part within their property lines?

Interesting, does that have anything to do with that huge pit on the southeast side of that site?

I bet if you looked over the railing, you would see the abandoned CPR rail tunnel portal for False Creek.

I think in this google maps view you can see the top of the portal, and the trackbed in the shadows:

This building is such an eye sore on that corner. I'm glad it's going down. Although, I thought it'd be smarter to build skyscrapers there and have a community garden on the roof. In fact, I wish more condos have its own little community garden at the top roof.

Too bad there isn't a smart hotel downtown, with a smart outdoor rooftop terrace restaurant on it, like the Park Plaza in Toronto, at Bloor and Avenue Road. Gives a real, urbane, "big city" touch.

Yeah, drove past on Friday and the pine trees on the corner were toothpicks.

I expect that the "original" balustrades from the original Georgia Viaduct (the onces with the X design) will be removed. Presuambly some will be preserved.

The City finally unstalled a lamppost next to the automatic toilet on Robson across crom Beard Papa's. There was an orange cone on the bolts for a cople of years. Oddly, the lamppost is for a spotlight that looks like it shines on the adjacent wall.

Does anyone know why David Lam Park is still a dirt field? Are they doing work in addition to restoring it to its pre-olympic state?

^ i drove past there 2 days ago and they were laying down grass....the park should be back open in no time.

Having moved to the area May 1st, I can't say I've noticed a difference since then. With all this nice weather the progress is painfully slow.

Perhaps they're going to try to do what they did some years back; build condos and sell them secretly to Hong Kong buyers. I hope not, and I give them the faith that the space will become a public park.
