i . in all seriousness, i know that picture is saskatoon but the picture makes there downtown look like a city the size of denver or edmonton. i am in no way taking any stabs at saskatoon, but that picture really seems to be presenting a false picture...

That's the magic of cameras! Would do the same thing to Downtown Regina from a tower on the outer edge of downtown. The river really helps with theirs though.

oh i hear you on the lense thing. however, if i was a tourist, say from denver and looked up that website and saw that photo. i'd be very impressed and would consider going to that picture city. i would also be very dissapointed once i arrive there and realized that downtown was only a quater of that size. my point is, why try to over sell a city?

$$$ that's why. It would be very unfortunate, because the city definitely does look a lot bigger and exciting than it really is. That's why these people get paid though I guess...to sell the city in any fashion. I suppose Saskatoon will look this way in 15 years?

The city is moving 12 trees out of Victoria Park and later planting 35 new ones. Nice to see trees are a big part of this new downtown project.

Paving rehabilitation on Albert Street from College Avenue to Saskatchewan Drive

The City is repairing and renewing 26km of roads to build a better Regina. As part of this renewal, construction work on Albert Street is scheduled to begin the week of May 3, 2010, weather permitting.

The scope of work for this project includes:

Isolated storm and domestic sewer repairs
Traffic signal upgrades at 15th Avenue, 13th Avenue, Victoria Avenue, 12th Avenue and 11th Avenue
Center median Removal (College Avenue to Victoria Avenue)
Center median replacement (Victoria Avenue to Saskatchewan Drive)
Concrete sidewalk replacement on west side of Albert Street (13th Avenue to Victoria Avenue)
Isolated section of concrete maintenance
Asphalt recap recap both sides (College Avenue to Victoria Avenue), south bound lanes (Victoria Avenue to Saskatchewan Drive)

Construction will proceed in phases, each with different traffic restrictions. The first phase is repairs to the sewer system. This work will commence on May 3 and continue for about 1 month. The following restrictions and road closures will occur at different times during this phase:

During construction traffic may be restricted to one lane in each direction. At times, you will have no vehicle access to your property from Albert Street.
During construction, traffic may be shifted to one side of Albert Street while the other side is closed for construction. At times, you will have no vehicle access to your property from Albert Street.
No full closures of Albert Street are projected during the work.

In addition to this, around the same time, the city is going to do more work on the bridge on Arcola, starting May 03 and estimated to take 4 months. Signage is up on Arcola already. That will make going downtown from the southeast a little more of a hassle. I imagine it will be reduced to single lane traffic.

It's false advertising, deception, misrepresentation, and imaginary bs. Anything for the almighty dollar. It's like the mouth watering picture of a hamburger they advertise and then the one you get looks like it's been sat on. The skylines in those 2 pics aren't even remotely similar.

Don't forget the fake models on magazines with touch ups and boob jobs, calogen injections ect. AND the fact that almost every business tv commercial lies about how good their product is or that they sell the best (burgers, pizza, suits, blouses, hair product etc) lets face it, we live in a propoganda world and it influences all of us cause they wouldnt spend millions on advertising for nothing.

I hear you. It makes a person skeptical of everything, but in that Saskatoon advertisement the sky more or less can look like that at times so for the most part it is truthful. And the river and bridges do exist so that's ok. But the downtown is right out of someones dream of what they want it to look like and in actuality is a very small percentage of what they show. A bit of embellishment is acceptable but if they would put the real skyline in place of that futuristic explosion of ego it would still look great and I wouldn't feel duped when I chose to visit the city.

It's actually houses in Valparaiso, Chile were I was born before moving to Canada/Regina as a kid.

This is an actual, unmodified shot of downtown Saskatoon I will take in 15 years after River Landing and all the other rumoured projects are in place. It is hard to see the The Bess on the right.

When an artist uses some creative license I'm not sure you can call it false advertising. It is visually altered enough to make a person realize it's not reality. In my opinion it was simply done in a manner to include downtown and its bridges. Personally I don't mind it.

A you can see a few minutes in Photoshop and you can make it normal or change it into Gotham City.




Would love to credit the original photo but not sure of it's source.

It is really a photo of downtown Saskatoon shot with a special lens &/or distorted in processing, but the buildings are all real as are the bridges.
